There's alot of different "mods" you can do to your n/a vl there all over the internet but no one actually says what sort of power gains they are getting? Has anyone done extractors, exhaust, port and polish of heads, cam, adjusted timing and actually put it on the dyno?
What kind of power gains did you get? And is it really worth it?
Cheers

There was a guy on the forum a couple years back who did all that plus diff gears and claimed to run 10s seriously... Must be worth it!

That's because most logical people realise that it's a WOFTAM ( Waste of ****ing Time and Money ) . Dunno how many times you're gonna put the same thread up Will but you're 15 years old . Learn how to drive first mate .

I got a stage two cam, ported head, shaved 20thou, xf throttle body with 3" intake, Extractors with hollowed out cat into 2.5" system. manual. Aftermarket ecu. Made 145rwkw. Ran 92mph at 14.9. At below 10 AFR(put fuel reg on at mckay queensland drags) Got rained out and still had a few passes left.

That sounds very fun, +1 to know what it all cost!

The motor was about 2.5 for all its gear. but thats near bearing rods etc. camtech valvesprings. Acid bathed and shaved head. But if you add the bolt ons about 5gs
But the computer/gearbox and i forgot to add 3.9s with a 28 spline LSD. cost about 5g all including motor.
Its abit of cash but im building a turbo motor soon so the computer gearbox and lsd can stay.
Its a fun p-plate legal car that sits next to the very early 5.7l's and hoses the new gen v6 and straight 6 cars.
Keen to head back to the drags when i get the tune sorted as it ran 14.9 on a 115kw tune. its now making 145.

Just get a turbo when you can.

26-02-14, 13:18 GMT+10#10 I know it's dumb but I've always wanted to make a higher comp n/a with a 300hp direct port shot of nitrous down its throat.... It would either go like the clappers of blow up but both would be funny

Same but with individual throttle bodies or a 4 barrel throttle body coming through the bonnet . You'd go a RB25 head as they flow better , get as much comp as you can out of it , throw in some wild custom cams , E85 fuel set up to get as much as I can out of it . Maybe instead of stroking it , destroke it to get it to rev harder . Wouldn't be cheap to do and you're probably better off starting with a 2jz .

To be fare allot of people spend that kind of money on the same or similar modifications. the only difference is this guy has not thrown the turbo gear in the mix to make up the last 40 precent.
throw a turbo, manifold, injectors, fuel set up and tune and it should be cracking 12s easy minus the shaved hear :\

It was a test to see how far we could push an RB na motor. mid 14's would have been its best with that cam. But im building a big motor that should be ready to put in by the end of the year. going to see if the VLT mx7 box will take it but i doubt it.

28-02-14, 22:42 GMT+10#19 Mate the mx7 box has run as fast as 9.5 150mph. Your na is not a problem, unless you are dropping the clutch which will break it you should never had the problem.
