Hey guys , So i was wondering today , one i strip the car and do all the work engine wise and paint wise etc etc ...would the interior look old and faded ? What would be you suggestion .. the interior i have is in very good condition just needs a steam clean but its still faded and when i get everything else new will it make let the car down . i would get the same exact pattern and cloth colour .. but new of course ? Is this suggested or respected ? Does anyone have any pics of their new interior done to originality ??

If it was exactly factory fabric etc I can't see why it would devalue. But as said above, good luck finding fabric. Why not just restore your interior?

I don't believe it would. If you find some cerulean late model material let me know Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Hhmmm well thats solves that .. jokes but ok so maybe not the exact same material then , but something as close to it as possible .... It would be nice for people to sec guess if it was from factory or not .. this is what i mean . Ive seen heaps and heaps of amazing beautiful brand spanker new calais interiors and which to look amazing but im going for a completley stock look .... they may seem to be weird to some but if couldnt buy one when it came due to the fact i was 9 years old .. lmaooo i would like to feel like im driving a new updated factory vl calais ... Ill search some more " interiors " in the search section now .. see if i can find some pics ... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

your car is sounding like a massive money pit already ask yourself is it really worth it especially when it can be easily stolen at the drop of a hat plus good near new cars are so cheap at the moment it's amazing you could get a good late VE Commodore for around $10K and that's a far nicer, safer and secure car to drive

Unless you have a pretty special model Calais i can't see re-trimming the interior de-valuing it. Adding to that, even a basic retrim can cost you a couple grand easy too. Why not just wait and find a good condition vl interior for sale? Like Duke said, the factory material is hard to find.

I recently had the front seats in my VL re-trimmed as they were slightly worn. I managed to find the original fabric on eBay and the total cost to re-trim just the front seats was $1500 not including the fabric, as I purchased this separately. There was no work done to the foam however there was some vinyl welding needed where there were small tears in the vinyl sections. The result was that the seats look entirely original however in brand new condition. While it is definitely a nice look, it is expensive and only possible if you can source the original material, which is very hard these days. You also need to find an upholsterer that you can trust and has the ability to re-trim the seats exactly the same way that they were done in the factory. If I had to re-trim all the seats and possibly the door trims, I probably would have either purchased a different style of front seats and/or used a different material such as leather. If you want to restore your VL to original condition, before getting the seats re-trimmed, it may be worth looking into which other parts need to be replaced or restored, if possible. The cost of plastic trim pieces and switches can be quite high and also hard to find. The places I usually look for original parts (Either replacement or aftermarket reproduction) are eBay, Holden, Rare Spares and of course, the For Sale section on this site.

factory sydney spec auto salon retrim would definatly devalue your car, but if your chasing a freshend up original interior i see why not, its a good idea in my eyes, just think about how all those old school cars would be if they didnt get a retrim

You paid 1500 to have your front seats retrimmed, sounds steep. Kylie drives a VL? Cool.

i see no harm in pouring money into something you love, but then again having owned a few VL's the thought of it getting pinched always lurked in the back of my mind just be weary of where you park when you go out and have it secured at home when its not driving and you should be right.

Australian Auto Trim or Vyfab would be your best bet to find some original fabric. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I have been to heaps of motor trimming shops in Sydney to have my front VL leather seats retrimmed and $1500 give or take $100 bucks was the price they quoted me and I'm in the motor trade.

I'd keep the same seem lines but choose an equally nice material to wrap the interior in. Leather dosent last n can be hit n miss for quality and consistency over time But. A nice subtle and classy interior would make a great addition. As far as Calais go, I'd say only 1 in 20 still have an interior that would add value to the sale price. If your not going for originality then any modification done with taste, thought and respect to its subtle elegance will increase the value of a Calais. It's about the over package and how it works together. Vls are a great car and some people can go the wrong way when they try and re-invent rather than subtly improve, in my opinion this is why original vls have held there values and why astheticly modified vls decrease. Thanks for tuning in hope Iv made some sence

Yes, it was a little steep but I was very happy with the result and you can't tell them apart from a set of original seats. The price also included having the arm rest re-trimmed and the seat rails re-painted in black. My name is actually Mark, I only use 'Kylie' as my online alias. I have since high school... It's a long story...
