Heres a few things to look for.
Rust
- Bottom of front and rear windscreens.
- pop the boot, and pull the rubber seal off and see how the rust is there.
- Take the spare wheel out and check the spare wheel well, and boot floor while your at it.
that is generally the places where vls will rust.
Body
- Look for any panels which are a slightly different colour, and if you see some check the surrounding areas for any existing accident damage.
Interior
- Make sure the odometer works. Even if the car is high kms, if the odometer isnt working it may be ALOT higher then you think it is.
Engine bay
- Check the radiator before you drive it, any muddyness, or milkyness is a concern for the cooling system
- Check the Fuse rail in the fuse box to make sure its not melted (high beam fuses seem to melt the fuse rail sometimes)
- Any oil leaks etc.
other then that, nothing much else I can think of.

Looked at it today... if your picky dont bother. The floor in the boot in the r/h side (the bit that sits lower than the boot floor) is rusted out.
Has rust appearing under front window, the rear is pretty good.
Paint is very thin, and showing loads of surface rust under the crows feet. Interior is good bar the slashed drives seat.
Didnt bother starting it. Wasnt what i was after.
Would be a good buy to get some spares...

The pics are a bit deceiving. Thought i would give a bit more detail on my thoughts given the trek across town required for you folk down south.

29-01-13, 19:15 GMT+10#18 I can't believe the asking price for cooner Vl Calais'. Its like the flip front adds $2,500. When I was looking for one I viewed about 5 that were all buckets and the owners wanted $3k. Does anyone buy them at that ridiculous asking price?
