Oh what?!? I was at my local kebab shop and they told me it was legal as long as i put the fluffy dice up.
Its quite difficult to make it legal but can be done. Don't know of any in SA though. On street commodores forum there is a guy doing it all legit in a VS.

Any modification is illegal to according sapol ( sa police ) and they will defect it even if legit because 99% of them dont know what there looking at and just want to raise revenue / meet their quota

It can be done, thinking about doing the same coversion to my wagon. Just need to ensure it meets the correct standards, Motor Reg at Regency can advise what is required, usually brakes (discs at all fours) and meets the emission standards and an engineers cert for any modifications to the car itself.
There is a white on silver VL Calais in SA with a Gen 3 conversion, its on the street but unsure if its 'legal'

WOW 99% of po-po that don't know what they're doing. How did you come to that conclusion?

Well as there law enforcement not mechanics. They know the law etc not cars so anything they see as not being factory fitted they see as illegal . Thats the reason we have vis ( vechicle inspection station or regency ) where mechanics who know what they are looking at inspect the car for defects . To quote a cop that defected me once i'm just a cop and it dont look right to me they / regency will decide if it ok to have that on your car heres a defect.

I'm not saying they dont know what they're doing just that they dont know cars as most of them don't

There are a few cops on this forum and they know plenty about cars! There just like you and me. some love cars, some don't give 2 ****s about cars. Just because they work in law enforcement doesn't mean they don't have hobbies.

So based on the one experience you have quoted, you can confidently say 99% don't know what they're talking about?
I'm not trying to defend SApol, but I think you'll find more than 1% of the states police have a mechanical background or are car enthusiasts just like yourself.
And I agree with you vllicious

Yeah the 99% was over kill , and i have put it wrong the point i was trying to make was if a cop wants to defect you they will find something on the car they suspect as being unsafe etc . My bad fellas didnt mean to make an idiot of myself.

I have also had 2 or 3 cops say this to me when being defected for legal things. I understand where your coming from mate and at the end of the day once your at regency they are ALWAYS gonna find something to defect you for to get you back a 2nd time.

^ Not always. Not if your talking a typically 'standard' car and you understand what they are checking.

I got my vz through first time coz all I had to change was the springs. My mate is putting a gen 3 in a vl Wally mok up, just put it in and drive it.

Put it in and drive it. Deal with the legal side of it when/if you get defected I turbod my VL while it was on defect and went through regency to have the defect cleared and got it registered as a turbo VL at the same time. All that's gonna happen if you get pulled up is you will cop a defect. Take it through regency then instead of now

Due to capacity and the motor never coming out in that model its a little more complicated. Avoiding regency at all cost.

I know it would be harder than mine. But what I'm saying is if your that keen about it being legit do what you can figure out needs to be done. Then if/when defected sort it out then. I wouldn't bother makin it legal personally lol. Don't think I could be bothered.

No cubic inch capacity restrictions in SA you can put a 620ci big block in your VL and get it engineered just fine for all regency care, all you need to do is pass emissions and noise.
