Well, the title explains a lot!! but anyway.. I've had the old VL for 2 years now, bought it when i was 16 for $600. Auto trans was cactus, so i bought a recon one for $750. popped the new trans in up in the shed, got her running sweet as. I've had my P's for about 4 months, and have enjoyed using the VL as my daily driver. I don't thrash the **** out of it, I need to respect my car, and my lisence. being an apprentice, i need my car to get to and from work, and i need my lisence to be able to drive work vehicles! I only earn $7.80 an hour, so i've been looking after the car, so it doesnt cost me a whole lot of cash. but anyway, this afternoon i was heading down to u-pullit, to see if there was any decent bits and peices going for VL's, picked up a nice horn pad, and made my way home. 5 minutes from home... 'WOOP WOOP' oh, *******s. whats the worst he's gonna do? give me a breathe test, check my lisence, and i'll be on my way. hahahaha, yeah i wish. Copper tells me one of my tail lights is out, oh ok, ill head up to a servo and get a new globe pronto officer! that wasn't good enough, he did a nice insepction on the side of the road. checked all the lights, indicators, horn, handbrake, put the transmission through all the gears, wriggled the seats, looked at seatbelts, checked the suspension, checked the tyres... had a nice inspection under the bonnet. he went back to his car, comes back with a nice canary for the window, and a nice defect slip for me. got defect for the tail light, rubber boot on the tie-rod end, some wiring on the fuse rail..(i recently put a new fuse rail in, and hadnt taped up the wiring loom yet!) And of course, it has to go through regency. I'm ****ed. so basically, im looking at getting a new car, cheap, because i cant afford ****. old bloke across the road pranged his VS, beautiful VS, light front end damage. could pick that up for about $300 and fix it up, or a mate has a VN i might be able to scoop up for $400ish. leaning towards the VS though. and then i'll fix up the defects on the paper, put the VL through regency, see what other defects it gets. and then i'll make a decision. Fix my defects, and take it through regency again or wreck the car( I really don't want to, its a very clean VL... but if i have to, i have to) being in my financial position, i'm guessing I'll be wrecking my beloved VL within the next month though. sooooo yeah. anyone in adelaide selling a car cheap? haha

Maybe try un-rego'ing it, and go to a half decent mechanic for a blue slip (after fixing all the problems ofcourse). Might save you some trouble going through regency (which by the sounds of peoples experiences on here, isnt very fun)

Hearing about **** like this makes me so *** angry. Are you losing any points? If so, the courts will easily give you a section10 if your an apprentice and need your car for work, happend to me twice with speeding 90 in a 60 zone and talking on the phone both on my Ps, had to do "serious traffic offenders program" down at Nowra but after that i was sweet on my way.

Just fix the things on the list, dress respectable when you go and act respectable. Sounds like he picked bugger all.

I dunno how it works, is it a major or a minor? Do they just check the things listed or go over the car?

They go over the whole car. No one gets through regency the first time, always come out with a stack more defects. The cop listed it as a major. Lol Sent from my 7 Trophy using Board Express

Your car will get through regency if you pay attention to a few key areas. Firstly, and most obviously, fix the things he picked you for, but go above and beyond that (eg 1 tail light out, replace all 4). Then you need to make sure there is not a leak anywhere! If bushes are worn, or starting to wear, replace them. Make sure you wipers blades are new, the jet nossels are clear, and the resivour is full. Also make sure your car is clean! They can refuse to look at the car if it is dirty. And probably the biggest thing, attitude. Go i with a good attitude, listen to what the inspector has to say, and if it doesn't make it though, don't get ****ty. It sucks that it has happened though mate, but unfortunatly SAPOL will only pick on cars they know will go to regency to get off defect, not the ****boxes that really should be off the road.

Yeah, it doesnt leak a drop of oil, fortunately. And yeah, i have new blades and the nozzles are clean im gonna fix everything on the list, and anthing else I can pick. Yeah, whenever dealing with cops I act responsible and all that. No use being a **** head, doesnt help you at all, no matter how much you feel like giving them a peice of your mind haha. Im hoping all goed well, will know in the next couple of weeks. Cheers guys :P Sent from my 7 Trophy using Board Express Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They might pick on rust, if its in the floor, or if its very serious. If its just a few rust spots under the windows i think you should be fine. Sent from my 7 Trophy using Board Express

Depends on where it is. Anything stuctural like chassis rails, pillars etc is a big no no. Around the windscreen etc you might be ok, but i'd be fixing or hiding as much as i could just to be sure.

SOOO i got two stickers now, picked me for rear windscreen rust, like 5 cent piece, crack in the rear cradle 2 cm long, (just need to weld it) no lpg sticker on the relay,( stick one on) WTF?, lpg cover on tank doesnt close properly, WTF? gap of 2 cm, need to put new strut bolts in the front struts as they are once only bolts, and about a 1 cm crack on the front seat mount in the floor. rapped me. you need to go the extra mile and do everything otherwise you'll have a long list, i replaced bushes, tie rod ends, front seal, list goes on, i know what they check for as i have been 4 times, never been done for any of the above.

It really does depend on who you get on the day too. Some of those guys there are just real pricks, others know that i does cost a lot of money to fix thes things, and as long as you have most bases covered will let the car through. I do agree though, we need to get a roadworthy system bought in over here, would make rego cheaper for a start, and get rid of all the ****boxes that the cops never defect....
