hey guys, ok so im going to try an rewrite this an not make myself look like a d**kh**d, OK im thinking for my little bro's birthday that ill give him my n/a so he can drive it on his p's,
its got
r33 box
LSD 4.11's
2 1/2 cat back
pacemaker extractors
cold air intake from under the airbox to the guard with k&n panel
Not sure of the power it would have, can anyone tell me roughly or if they have a similar setup what it makes?
Obviously they a cop/ theft magnets, so how good is this for a p plater, i just want other peoples opinions please otherwise i wont give it to him and ill just sell it?
thanks

lol bye bye vl, hello ACA story on 5 young dead P-platers. you may as well give him the car and say your farewells now with both your attitudes. unless it's taken to the drag strip which obviously by the sound of it woudn't happen.

no worries.. i like vl's but probably wouldnt give one to my little brother. just leave him to get his own car and maybe when he's older and has some more experience hand it onto him. i have seen sooo many young guys (and girls) wreck vl's. usually from being idiots or from braking too late, slamming on brakes with car close behind, or by turning into the path of another car and getting T-boned. I hate seeing it. I'm only 21 myself but i dont drive in a way that could end up damaging my car or damaging lives

It usually comes from how they were taught, my cousin and i both have turbos while young (im only 21 now too) but we were taught how to drive properly with respect for other road users :S Sure some straight line fun is always bound to happen in a VLT but you gotta know when to say stop. If you give it to him make sure he doesnt hang around with **** heads who are gonna be a bad influence when it comes to driving, and give him some lessons yourself. VLs have like a 2 out of 5 star saftey rating so not as good as giving him a new golf say, but any car can be driven in a manner that will kill the driver/passengers/bystanders etc...

just sell it
it's a recipe for disaster if you gave it to him: prang, theft, fines etc
yes of course you can die in any car however you want the best chance of survival not a poor chance that a VL provides
gld-vlt is on the money

Iv had my Calais from when I was like 16 if he loves the car he won't stack it. If he thinks it's junk then he will drive it that way

Sounds like it's up for rego lol, sounds like a hell of a present, probably too good of one, depends if you can afford it, if so do it, up to you.

31-01-12, 08:08 GMT+10#10 yeh it depends, ive owned old commos since i was on learners, learnt on a vh 202. And because of driving them all this time i know how they react/drive/slide lol. As well as this, I have a little thing that alot of others dont called 'respect' for my car. I see so many guys get given cars from their parents / family and thrash the crap out of it an treat it badly. When you havent had enough experience driving cars an one is given to you, not only are you not going to treat it well, your probably going to get caught out and loose control and not know what to do, and a rear wheel drive lsd car only adds to this. So many guys right off their vls, i prob slide mine in the wet just as much if not more than they do, difference is i kno my car and how it reacts.
If your going to do it, id take him for a few test drives in it so he knows what its like before he starts 'piling' all his mates in it and they start geeing him up to be stupid, because it will happen, we all know this as car lovers lol

31-01-12, 12:14 GMT+10#14 Yeh there's no way id give him the car without him having some experience driving it first, which he has, mainly my mum and me have taught him how to drive, mainly me actually, but he's not a 'hoon' ive tried to make him respect cars as much as possible especially when he drives the vl, which is not often, i dont want him to get a big head aswell and tell his mates 'ohh yeh drove the vl today rah rah' and be an idiot. His mates dont seem like the type to be dumb but who knows with peer pressure... And ive already told him that if he were to get it that he would have to pay for rego and insurance aswell, the car will stay under my mums name so it will be cheaper for him..

31-01-12, 20:58 GMT+10#16 The whole idea of it just gives me a bad feeling. and he hasn't even inherited the car yet. you don't know how he acts when you're not around or what impulses may overcome him. In my eyes a vl (generally) can only be only 3 things, an absolute ****box that you dont touch/buy/drive, or left standard and driven like a normal non car enthusist would, or a modified to highly modified car intended to be used for illegal/dangerous/high risk driving and thrills. unless youre a true vl enthusist who genuinely respects the car and only races it on a track and doesnt try drifting it everywhere and dragging mates ****box sss pulsars. but do you think that mature mindset refects that of young drivers/teenagers who want a vl or commodore etc? I would think not.

31-01-12, 21:37 GMT+10#17 i had an old magna as my first daily. faster than the vl but it was fwd. tbh both were probably as safe as the other. 4:11's and an r33 box scream a very torquey car so maybe not a great idea if he has a heavy foot. I think part of having a crappy first car is you usually don't have the cash to do performance mods which keeps you safe for a while.
I'd pass it on however be perpared for it to end up bent. not because of his behaviour but just general p platers and daily use. vl's seem to attract rear enders / parking dents etc like a giant magnet.

second thought re police.... just buy him a vs. airbags and abs = yay and lets face it with the no mods rules around today giving him a modded vl isn't a great idea. sell it and get him a vs 3.8l with a few safety features. i don't drive my vl in the rain as it gets a touck sketchy when you are used to driving a vy every day.

01-02-12, 04:55 GMT+10#18 I wish I had an older brother that gave me a vl for my 1st car! if you aren't too phased by it I'd let him have it. then he can save for a better car or do what he wants with that one

01-02-12, 05:44 GMT+10#20 Lots of haters in here.
I say give it to him. Sounds like you're a pretty good brother.
This things probably putting out 120rwkw if that, much much lower than the power outputs of a new car. Maybe everyone in here is forgetting that most of them had a VL as their first car and they're not any more dangerous than any other 1980's car.
There's one thing that all P platers cars have that can cause a lot of damage and that's the driver behind the wheel. It doesn't matter what kind of car they're in, it comes down to his ability and attitude. He'll probably tell you he'll look after it, wont do skids, wont speed, wont do stupid things... but we all know he will, we all did.
