hey guys blew my rb30 up and have a new motor to go in. Mechanics around here want $1000+ to do the swap and they cant do it for a couple of weeks If i was to buy a engine crane is this how i would remove motor? 1.remove bonnet 2.undo gearbox bolts 3.remove vac hoses from plenum, radiator hoses and fuel lines 4. remove wireing harness from motor marking where all connections go 5. remove starter motor, air con, power steering lines 6 remove engine mount bolts 7. connect crane to motor and pull it out Anything missed? gearbox doents have to be dropped either does it?

probably easier to take out motor and box in one go and put it back in the same way if your doing it at home. otherwise can be a paint to take out convertor bolts and stuff under the car. if its an auto that is.

Ok whats the going rate for a cheapish autobarn/supercheap crane. Im hoping around $200ish How many hours labour would this be? the cheapest mechanic who i found says its 8 hours labour. This seems a long time for a mechanic?

[QUOTE=qwertsta;2860317]Ok whats the going rate for a cheapish autobarn/supercheap crane. Im hoping around $200ish Be careful with what cranes you buy, i bought a cheaper 2 ton (off the top of my head) and found that when i was trying to line the engine mounts up its arm was a tad too short. if your going to buy one make sure it's decent, otherwise why not just hire one for the day?

in my workshop we charge 8 hours as the going rate. subarus take around 2 hours for a swap or less depending.. still charge the 8 hours. and id set aside a weekend day where you have nothing better to do. just incase

you pritty much have it sorted! Just disconnect as little as you need to so you know where everything goes. You can even leave the trans connected just take the drive shaft out

disconnect the engine loom from the computer and the 2 or 3 plugs under the dash and pull thru the fire wall easier than undoing every plug in the car. dont disconect the aircon lines just drop the compressor of the motor saves you the cost of a regas

i would unbolt the aircon and powerstearing and leave it on the side, that way nothing leaks, and id pull the whole lot out engine and box, and put the whole lot back in again, regards to starter motor, make sure u dc the battery first before u do anything, and then just unbolt the starter and let it it on the cross member! it shouldn't take u anymore than an hour to pull the engine out if u do what i've said! normally i can have my engine and box pulled out of my car in about 30 / 45 mins (use hoist)

Going to try fit motor tomorrow, need to know where these 2 lines go off the plenum. The one of the plenum goes to charcoal canister im pretty sure but what about the line comming off the bottom of the throttle body. Also is it ok to start the car when there is no dump pipe from the turbo? i want to make sure its running before i have it towed to exhaust shop Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
