I fitted some new coilovers in my calais as the ones in the car were damaged. The problem I am having is that the driver side is hitting the tyre (adjusting nuts). And it looks like the passenger side is on more of an angle then the driver side? Both strut tops are facing the same way (forward towards engine). I had a look at the old coilovers and the adjusting nuts have been ground back ONLY on the drivers side so it looks like whoever fitted them solved the problem that way. I could do the same but I want to fix the problem rather then grind away at the nuts or use the old nuts. Tyre's are 235/35/19s. Before I start pulling things apart I would like peoples feedback on what it might be. Any help would be appreciated. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

A degree less camber would work.

I had exactly the same issue fitting coil overs onto mine, basically the offset of my wheels were too far in an hit the springs. just made up a set of 10mm spacers for the fronts and happy as larry. Although im not sure why one would be hitting and the other wouldnt, maybe your camber is off on the drivers side (as has been said)??

More weight on the driver's side, causing the suspension to push down further, and get closer to the tyre. You need wheel with the appropriate camber, or possible some adjustable strut tops.

Looks to me like the off set of the DS wheel is different to the PS, adjustable tops wont make a difference because that dont change the distance for strut to tyre, its not more weight as the car is jacked up

Herp derp, I didn't see the jack stand. Well, shit I completely didn't look at that picture properly at all. ---------- Post added 24-11-11 at 11:10 ---------- Front wheel bearing perhaps? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Same way i made mine Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

in the original post he said he replaced them with new ones. nd the old ones had the drivers side ground aswell so it cant be the case that its been in a accident. what i dont understand is why is the drivers side straight and the passenger side sits on a huge angle that would worry me more than a tyre hitting the nut

It seems very wierd to have them so different, the only other thing i can think of would be if the wheels werent sitting on the hub properly when bolted up or something jammed in between or something silly. But if not that, then id say somewhere in the hub something may be bent. Take to your mechanic or something mate, its very odd that their so different, maybe your lower control arm on your drivers side is bent or has taken a hit or something.. the only way your guna find out is if u pull it all apart and check the similarities

Its not going to be camber or accident damage cos where ever the top of the strut goes, the stub axle will follow.. Check to make sure you don't have one odd wheel with a higher positive offset.

the triangle is for battery location for track work, arcing batteries after a crash can ignite fuel so they let services know where to disconnect ---------- Post added 24-11-11 at 13:26 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by TUXEDO [View Post] Its not going to be camber or accident damage cos where ever the top of the strut goes, the stub axle will follow.. Sorry guys forgot the mention the car is off the ground on stands in the pics. As mentioned, adjustable strut tops won't make a difference as they only adjust the camber not the distance from the strut to tyre. The wheels are genuine VX GTS and I used the SAME wheel on both sides for the pics (hence why the patterns are different ways). I'm leaning towards worn or damaged, bush, ball joint or control arm. And I have new front wheel bearings that I will replace. The struts don't look damaged or bent.. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
