Hi all, just would like to get a feel of what you all think about the VT+ brake upgrade, as many people are telling my they're not very effective, and not much better then standard turbo brakes, making me consider bigger options as brembos, AP or Alcons.

With a VS booster and VT master, they are much better than standard VLT brakes. Whether they will stand up to abuse around a racetrack, I couldn't tell you.

VT's were a pretty good upgrade from standard. Braided lines and good fluid will work well. You dont have to upgrade the master or booster to get good results. Anything else and you are looking at big dollars, anything bigger than VT and you will have to upgrade master and booster, also most likely a bias adjusting valve too. I know what I payed for the fronts and rears on mine, and it wasnt cheap.

i believe warped discs are a common problem with vt's. the vn grp a 330mm twin piston fronts are what i went for after some research and they are much better than the standard vlt brakes. they are about $1200 new but second hand you see them for half or less than that. the 1" master and booster work just fine with them. just depends how far you want to go.

vt front brakes with standard 1 inch master cylinder was definately a way better upgrade then the stock vlt brakes. the pedal still felt a little bit ****ty but was a massive improvement. best thing is they sit under 15inch stocky, the bigger brakes require bigger wheels which may or may not effect you.

speak to vhr32 he sells kits for gtr brembo kits or even r33 gtst 4 pot calipers. i have a set of r33 gtst 4 pot calipers sitting at home that came off a half cut that im putting on mine and all you need is 1inch master and depending on how much vaccum assistance you want you can upgrade the booster but im sticking to standard booster as vacumm assitance doesnt bother me to much

Yeah one of Matt's (VHR32) kits would be far better than a VT upgrade. Either the R33 or RX7 calipers. RX7 has the advantage of being able to fit 15"rims still

matt is a legend and will guide you through the whole process. only reason people tend to use the VT upgrade is because they can get calipers cheap however they dont then think they need booster master cylinder hub adaptors and rotors and pads all ads up.

question, if i end up using for example GTR brembos, does the front stud setup become that of nissan? to accomodate the discs? or do we buy gmh pattern discs of the same size? forgive my ignorance on this boys.

yeah buy VN sv5000 brakes which off top of my head are 320mm so no they dont change to nissan stud pattern

sorry for reviving an old thread, but im not at the stage where we've changed EVERYTHING on my undercarrage, and the brakes are now next. So based on your thoughts, we have many options, including a Nissan or RX7 type caliper? i do want to race the car, but once im finished racing, i'll probably put monster brakes on it. Does anyone have Matts contact, so i can call him for a chat?

IS there a noticeable difference in upgrading pads on standard brakes to something better? Is there 'the pad' that everyone should be running that cant afford a complete disc and caliper upgrade?

About a year ago I put 296mm VT PBR front brakes with QFM A1RM pads and RDA slotted rotors on the front, standard VL rear brakes with RDA slotted rotors and QFM A1RM pads. Braided lines, A 1 1/4 inch PBR master cylinder and VT booster modfied to fit the VL firewall. Ive done a track day, the front pads were finished and front rotors groved but not warped. The brakes did not fade and the pedal felt good all day (smashing them on from around 150kmh down to 90) I use the standard dot 4 brake fluid you can buy from any supercheap. It cost around 2k to do this upgrade properly and I can gaurantee it will hold up on the track.

the actual (metal) brake lines are differant from vt to vl so it is fcukin dangerous not to make new ones up u will need the vt master cylinder and disc/caliper set-up as the vt master cyl had differant size valve for the effective use of the twin pistons. if u just use the vl and pretty much any other master cyl even after bleeding, the brake pedal travel will be too great. now back to the metal brake lines the vl's used twin wall flanges and the vt used single now im no engineer but i think u all need to have a real good look into all that and stay safe an alive brakes are one thing u dont want to get wrong.

My standard VLT brakes lock up fairly easily, is it even worth doing an upgrade for a street car? Ive been planning on putting in some EBC pads though

I'd say an 8 or 9 or 10 second VL street car could always do with a brake upgrade lol There's more to being able to slow a VL in a hurry from 150+kph...than locking brakes.. Haha.. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.. Doesn't get much more scary than pressing on a pedal that's already on the floor and nothing is happening..

Cant really make a concrete decision based on whats being said, so many different combos - if i wasnt planning to race it, i would've just out a set of 6 pistons on it, and be done with it. I might also give matt a call (VHR32), see what he has to say
