hey
ive heard stuff about ppl using rd28 blocks when doin big hp 26/30 combos. any ppl out there no whats invloved or if this is even true..
any info would be appreciated.
thanks
It has been done. Allout is a R33 running a RD28 block with 26 head.

block cost 800 + about 500 machine the rb26 oil/water gallery. then u need custom made head studs. but well worth the extra cost if using 26head and slap 3.2 stroker
I might look into researching this also. Would be a good option if the head went on the rd28 in my patrol. Cause the rd28 heads are ment to be like $5,000.
quick a few of the serious cars out there are using the rd blocks but good luck with getting the details out of them.
If you need one of these blocks to hold your engine together, my bet is that it's a race car, because the rb30 block can make in excess of 1000rwhp and that is more than you will need, or acutally use, in a street car

You can get whole cars for that price... can't imagine a head off a dirty old diesel patrol is going to cost anywhere near $5k.

5k my arse i bought a new head the other day for a rd28 patrol and it was $1000
Yer it's for a drag car. Just tossing up which way to go. Would b good if there was more info out there on this. Some say the blocks are the same height as a rb25 block if that's the case I wonder how the stroke of a 3l will go, would push the pistons out the top of the deck
yer ive never heard of that. i no bullet cylinder heads are doin billet alloy blocks for rb,s. but ild hate to think of the cost

hence the reason why patrol owners are dropping in RB25DET's after they blow their RD28 motors

There was a lot of talk about it, but I have never seen one in the flesh. Anyone with enough coin could pop into a place like Harrop and ask for a billet block to be built and pay for developemnt. The risk vs reward probably killed it. In the LS scene, guys don't flinch at paying 7K for a block. In the RB scene guys whinge about paying $20 more to use a 90 Deg Hose End.

lol well imagine, i did one a couple of months ago on my patrol, ended up costing $5800 all up, but that was including labour, new pulleys (over $1000 in just them), all new belts etc
the head alone was $3000 to buy new, if i had of known this before i organised it to get fixed i would have went straight for a 5.7 or 6.0 conversion..

id love to know who you got a new head for $1000 off, maybe a 2nd hand one either that or you have good contacts, or gave the guy you got it off one hell of a blowjob...
I did say ment to cost that much. On the patrol forums they say it cost $4-5,000. Can see 2 people have just said in here it cost that much or more also. And my patrol is a 1996 so leaves the rb30 block basically out of the question as the engine is older then the car so can't be engineered and if I use my existing block I won't need an engineers for an engine transplant as it wouldn't have done an engine transplant.
