Hello members.
I thought I'd share my new toy.
Its a 1986 VL calais turbo, genuine shell, pretty nice interior and the body got paint from its previous owner about 6yrs ago. not sure on the color but looks OK I guess.
What started out as a RB30 the old owner Richard dropped in a RB30/26 with a 2spd glide and a GT4202r turbo. engine made over 600hp@ the wheels but after 3-4 engine builds or head gaskets Richard went a different way.
He brought an LS1, got a V8 chev glide, and his old GT42 turbo and the idea was alive.
Cameron from my workshop (EFI Performance) dropped the motor and box with a comp cam and valve springs
while Paul from stoich motorpsorts custom made the exhaust manifolds and cooler pipes.
The project was near close to complete, but life as it does, time, money and wife takes a man "by the balls" and kills his goals.
Me on the other hand, I was awaiting Richie as a customer to bring the VL to me for my workers to finish the car off, when one day, by chance I asked rich if he would sell. There it was.
I got the car and began the final stages, the hard, the time consuming and the fiddling stages.
#Wiring and ECU
#fuel system and lines
#coils and engine loom
#dash and all the small stuff.
#exhaust system
#trans cooler/lines,catch cans, power steering
ect
(you look at this list and thing, phhhttt **** all there, but we worked on the car for 2 full weeks)
Up and running the car is a dream, sounds tuff better than any RB motor, "my personal opinion" and has the turbo noise of the future.

How much torque does it make?
We never logged RPM on the dyno, but I could find out for ya.
Enough to destroy tyres.
love this thing
i think it was mentioned in another thread but over 600hp is really testing the limits of the standard ls1 ey?
i know a few yanks have pumped out that much power but its not really recommended, are you guys expecting it to grenade soon?

Well who knows, on a tuning side, differently NOT, its running really good fuel pump/meth 50/50 mix, has almost the best fuel system money can buy and EGT's are still around 700deg.
But for a stock engine, only mechanical failure will destroy it, bearing or Gauguin pin, typical LS1 problem.
verrry nice whitey looks tuff as! new it wouldnt be long till you got another vl
just hurry up and get it on the street

Ls1s are good for 600+ i know few people that are putting that much power out of their vehicles and is defenatly killa combo something different well done
