Do any of you take off in 2nd?
I would think that 1st would be really short (particularly if you had 3.9 or 4.11 diff gears)
Would the benifit of using 1st outwiegh the time to change gears to 2nd??
ok i have been practicing launches the past 2 nights until i split a water hose last night
im using a 35/40 with .82 rear so i have been revving till minimum 4200 rpm then dumping 1st to try and get some traction.. snap 2nd gear and the car has no traction, 3rd gear still no traction..
i tried dumping 2nd, just does not like it, rev'd till 5500rpm and nothing
Im just about to buy slicks so hoping a clutch dump in 1st is going to be ok and just make sure i get good gear changes.
Anyone have any advice on exact RPM to drop the clutch?

i have 3.45 diff gears, button clutch, r33gtst box, 34/50 with .82 rear
With street tyres, try riding the clutch a little more to reduce that initial shock on the tyres that is making them spin.
That being said launching on the street and launching on a prepped track are two different things. You'll be amazed how much grippier the track is, and how rough you can be without the wheels spinning
ok sweet just thought i might try get some advice as it will be my 1st time out..
im getting 235/60/15 semi slicks hopefully on friday just waiting to hear back.
Does anyone recommend in 2nd and 3rd gear giving the clutch a quick kick around 3-3500rpm to build the rev's up higher/faster?
I used to clutch kick in 2nd and 3rd whilst rolling all day, on the limiter then pop it.. Was a very laggy rb25 though, no boost till around 4k..
Also don't ride your button clutch, it wont last a week.
yep, deffinately do not slip it. Like I said, it will be ruined within a week. Even on take off in normal driving conditions, you don't have to dump it as such but just get it out quick.
You wont be able to ride a button clutch anyway.. it's pretty much either engaged or disengaged.
It'll be a case of trial and error. Your car and your combo is not exactly like anyone elses and neither is your driving style. Read your time slips and see where the car is quicker on similar passes and learn from it.
ET's plus prepped track = big traction. Hold on!
my personal opinion is every car is different...
you got to know your car and at what rpm you can stretch it to without wheel spin. just keep practising and once you got it dont think about it too much.. i know with my vy ss when ever i got a run a allways get too much wheel spin coz i think of take off too much... keep the nerves down relax and yo u will be sweet bud. =]
Well there's .4 (from memory) of a second between the last orange and the green, which is the reaction time of people to see something, realise it and then move. So if you launch as soon as the last yellow comes on you should go pretty close to the green.. just dont over do it or you'll red light.
