just a quick one, is there much screwing around in installing front speakers in the front doors? will i have to grind a hole out of the door? cheers

yep you will. one in the doortrim, one in the door. this becomes an unroadworthy matter as its a structural thing but the likelyhood of getting done for it is nil.

And is kinda sad seeing speakers cut through original door trims and panels, unless its done well and looks very close to factory, go for it, im considering doing it but dont know how much i will appreciate it not being factory looks.

I used VR/VS speaker baskets and door pods for mine. Its a bit tricky to do it, but easily done. You have to make a few cardboard templates and such to transfer locations of the cuts and screw holes and the like. They dont look too bad, better then any after market speaker pods you could use which look horrible. Im going to get paint matched to my blue interior plastic and spray them that colour and inlay some blue carpet in them to make it look as factory as possible. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Cutting up 24 yo door trims is slowly becoming unpopular amongst holden purists, some 4" kenwoods in the dash and 6 x 9s in the back will be in my next car.

I agree, but 4 inch speakers just dont cut it if your looking for decent sound.

try a set of focal 100KRS, i think there around $5-600. Even these will lack in midbass as you just cant get 4" speakers to produce the frequency range suitable for your fronts. IMO, install larger speakers in doors or custom kick panels.

hey guys, thinking of using VR/VS door pods for the front of my calais. Do you need to cut any holes in the trims or are the pods deep enough for 6 inch splits? My trims are too nice to butcher.

man i just sat them in there ay. im yet to screw the speak in properly. ( there no movement, its sat in there pretty well.) but no if you take a little bit of time u should be able to get the speakers in there without cutting the trim Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i hate the fact my door trims are cut... but new carprt on the bottom will fix that... getting the pedalbox modified, and custom kickpanels made with 6"'s, ecu moved and all...

However i did see a calais the other day with minttt beige door trims hacked up and 5inch speakers put in with super cheap auto mdf spacers infront of the window winder of all places... i almost cried.
