Hey guys I am starting my gearbox conversion tomorrow. I am installing my power glide. It is Rated to handle 1000hp. It comes with Bell Housing, B&M Shifter, Full Manual, Transbrake and Transbrake Button on Shifter, $1750 Torque Converter with 5500 stall, Scatter Shield, Modified Cross Member Bracket with all Nuts and Bolts Supplied, Custom Dipstick. I wanted to know if there is anything I should know about what needs to be done? So far I have Complete Powerglide LSD Oil coolers B&M shift kit Modified cross members Do I NEED to change or modify the tailshaft at all? And is there anything else?

That sounds like a very full on transmission to be asking these sorts of questions. No offence. Well, as long you have a bellhousing to suit the back of an RB block, that's all fine As well as the tranny crossmember modified to suit a VL floorpan. Oil coolers need to be mounted up front for air flow, and lines run sensibly. LSD, go here (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=133721). I would consult a tailshaft specialist and get them to modify it.

I would consult a tailshaft specialist and get them to modify it. The questions might seem basic but this is my first gear box change. My dad will be helping me, hes changed many in his time but I just want to double check. I was fairly certain that I had to change the tailshaft I just wasn't sure what length and who to take it to. I have 2 oil coolers with fans that will be mounted in the front right behind the bumper because I have no room in front of the radiator because of the aircon fan and intercooler.

Yeah it's going to be a bItch by the looks of it. got it all on stands and that now so I can just work on it every now and then. Had some fun getting the tailshaft off. The nuts felt like they were welded on.

You will need to have a yoke to suit the glide and the tailshaft shortend obvisouly, also are you running a different ecu?

dude its an easy as conversion hey. easy to put the tranny lines on first so hard to get to once the box is tucked up into the tunnel. yer youll need a yoke for the front of the tailshaft, and tailshaft modded final drive is the best place to get this done he did mine.(powerglide to borgwarner diff) phil will only do 2 peice shafts for them they bolt straight in. the dent you gotta put in the tunnel isnt that bad its only to clear the selector shaft, any dramas pm me

Sounds like the box is overkill for your current setup, unless you have 2 500hp turbos, but should be fun none the less

I hope you guys are aware than a standard glide with a few minor upgrades can handle 1000hp. The list however can keep you going to $35,000 if you love the word billet. so jbonez, a stock glide is usually over kill for most cars. Don't let the "rated to 1000hp" side track you it pretty much means, Stock O'Haul with upgraded shaft and drums. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The stall is rated to 5500 but on my car would only be around 3200 to 3500. I spoke to the guy that built the box and he reckons it is one of the strongest he has built and the internals would cost a fortune to do the same build over. He has a 900hp drag car running the same gearbox and it has been running strong for 3 years. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I didn't buy it off the guy that built the gearbox anyways so I think it was just genuine advice he was giving me. I no that the gearbox is stronger then a lot of the other powerglides they normally build because the guy I bought it off was very good friends with the guy that built it. Either way, I just wanted a strong, reliable gearbox. That's the whole point of it being overkill. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thats fine I'm not saying it isnt. I'm just saying how good they are standard.
