Dont know if this is the right section or not, anyway,i've done a search and couldn't find what i'm looking for.
I want to know what are some things to look for when trying to identify if your calais is not a real calais,i'm talking about the little things, things a person mite not swap over or add if they were building a fake, like little badges, courtesy lights, that sort of stuff.I've checked vin numbers & stuff but i'm not convinced.
I'm trying to confirm some suspicions i've got abut my car.
Cheers guys,ur help would be good.
with the calais and the berlina/sl the holes under the rear eyebrows are different.. the calais ones are higher then the standard ones.. you would be able to notice if there drilled holes
yes and see if the headrest supports are welded or screwed on... also check if the side skirts are held on properly. also check to see if the alarm and horn are in place (cobra alarm in the dash and horn on the passenger strut tower)
should also be blackouts behind the sideskirts / taillights / bumper bars
look for overspray or signs the build plates have been moved.
as mentioned the 1/4 taillamp surrounds are a good start. there should be holes for locater tabs (which should if not removed be held on with a rubber washer type seal and a tarnished coloured clip.) people wouldn't bother to drill those holes i believe there should be four or 3. bootlid will also have locating tabs but bootlids can be changed.
Cheers guys, its a wagon so i think the eyelid holes ur talkin about wouldn't apply?Right?
With the head rest supports do u mean the back ones?
Its got the horn on the strut tower but where abouts is the alarm in the dash?It has what i think is an aftermarket keyless entry/alarm aswell,i'm not sure tho, maybe it is factory. What do the keyless remotes look like for a vl?
Cheers
dude look i \n the glove box it will be up the top there is a key hole for the factory override i think well thats where mine was on my calais wagon but it also has aftermarket alarm. although still has the overide keyhole..
Build sheet is usually under the carpet in the rear, mine was on the driver side. As for the alarm, the under bonnet siren looks like a standard horn, not the siren you get with aftermarket alarms. The key overide is in the glovebox, top right pointing down, if it's there you can't miss it, but it may have been removed as mine was. The alarm box itself is located under the dash pad on the passenger side, above the glovebox. Pretty sure the wagons didn't have rear headrests. Is the power window lockout button for the rears under the steering column? I had an SL with calais interior once and whoever fitted the power windows just didn't bother with it. Also, there was no circuit breaker for the windows in the fuse box.
Chuck up some pics of the build plate and fuse box if you can.
Yea i'm going to rip up all the carpet as soon as i get a chance, see if i can find these build sheets.I've checked all the vin numbers and stuff but still not convinced.the window lockout,is it a black button, that sits by itself?Cos its got that.I'll check the fuse box as well, thanks mate.
Let me know if you's have any other ideas.
Yea i'm hopin so aswell,i bought it years ago under the impression it was genuine, but after learning more about them and checking the vin numbers it seemed it might not have been, its just seems to be to good of a mockup if thats what it is.
some did and some didn't have headrests so that might be a worry. is it an a9y? or pre a9y?
does it have the blackouts under the bumpers and the sideskirts?
as for the sideskirts did you pul these off? seee if the pins are there or not.
