Was looking at the prices on VLCT's (some arent Calais) but going from highest to lowest the prices heading north is crazy !! I understand that the first coulple are mega hp + show cars but go to the lowest price Calais and its $8500 .... There are calais turbos from $10k - $20k that really are nothing special. First time ive looked up the prices in a while and was amazed.

Alot arent selling for that kind of money. People can ask what they want but they dont always get it. I cant see the value in a neat calais turbo for $8k when you can get a 5 - 7 year later model with more power, comfort and less kilometres for the same money.
Well i sold mine without even having to advertise it, and i was quite happy with the price. It's all about finding a buyer who actually appreciates quality.
True, i was just amazed. I brought mine for $11k and i thought that was at the higher end but i got a really really clean car with all the harder to find bits, Factory manual (R33,) twin cam head, clean paint, very low Ks etc.... guess i should be happy

I dont agree that its like comparing with a HK monaro for $200k. There are a tiny handful of people who 'collect' perfect examples of calais turbo's... and in saying that they have to be prime examples. Return on investment? Maybe a small amount but not much... more than likely lose on it.
Muscle car prices are on a plateau at the moment and you wont see huge bursts for a few years yet when the later series of monaro's and GT's verge on being 40 years old. (not vintage or antique but I cant remember the term)
99% of people who buy a VL arent collectors as such and just want a car they like that goes well. Yes its all personal preference but when people are laying down the folding stuff they realise what else they can get for the same money.
I guess its only collectors paying that for the older monaros. Yer i guess the people buying these are just people after some quick fun.... but when i got my first one about 6 years ago they were all around $6k - $11k. Now i look down that page and see a list of $15k +
Is it more money is being spent on them and asking more or is it there value going up ?

It's easier to sell a VL Calais that actually looks like a VL Calais, rather than a kitted up, Fully HEKTIC spraypaint, mock-up piece of cr.ap.

Ill agree with JET 5LT - its bloody hard to find a CT that isnt an e bay mock up abortion job. They all have worn interiors, tacky autobarn add ons etc. I guess people are willing to pay more for something that obviously been done well

VLCT's are generally worth 7-9k and I feel theyve been stagnant at that selling price for 4 or so years. Theres cheap pieces of crap and theres expensive hipo ones, but the general price i feel is 7-9k.
People ask alot for them because theyre a popular car but I wouldnt mind knowing asking prices compared to selling prices. I remember that purple calais turbo that ICUL8R had (I think it was him) and he was asking 12k for a really nice car with quite a few mods for around a year. It ended up selling but I bet for no where near 12k.
I dont think prices are rising just yet but in the future no doubt they will be going for a bit in STOCK condition. You dont see any modified monaro's going for anything near $200k... but we're comparing apples with oranges.
edit: I think it was URHYNS I was thinking of.
Well if VLCT's are worth 7 - 9
what would you say VLBT's and VLSLT's are worth?
and are you talking about stock, unmodified cars?
or cars with minimal mods?

Im talking about your stockish / minor mods types. We all know BT1s are over priced for what they are... but the market keeps demanding it. Lets not start another argument about calais Vs BT1 price war again!
What I think theyre worth is not what the market is saying... so we differ there People buy them for investment and historical reasons but it doesnt add up to $$ value return.
Im not talking about 'asking' prices but actual sale prices... because I know you can copy and paste asking prices to me.

Yeah it's a pretty damm interesting market for VLCT's. They are actually holding their value amazingly.
I think these 20-30k+ cars are generally people hurting from a high priced engine rebuild, and spending a ton of money on the car. Unfortunately you don't really make your money back on that sort of stuff, escpecially since it would now be "second hand".
I think the 10-14k market offers the best value, you can get something that's had a lot of "expensive" work done, and it will be an extremely well looked after, and clean car.
Buying a VLCT under 7-8k is probably risky business, although obviously there are bargains out there at times...
Wouldn't go as far as saying they are a "rare" car, but it is becoming harder to find an excellent condition VLCT as the years go on (they aren't making any more!).
