Hi guys, I have pulled my rb30 engine out to rebuild. Its a stock rb30 intending to take a turbo. What is the most cost effective, bare minimum i should replace or install? I hope it can be done for under $3K. Cheers guys.

I'd go to Stone Raceing on this site and get a block built

Hi guys, I would love to do it myself, but i might screw it up. I already have T04, manifold, pipes and all other hoses etc. 3k to rebuild the engine itself. If i can do it for less, i'd be rapt. I heard that honing will cost about 500bucks, is that required?

dont think 3g will cover it ive just blown my bottom end and its going to cost me 3-4 g's spend the money and do it right dont be a tight ass coz your just going to have more problems down the track

Oh no, you must have been pumping big power right? I have a mechanic mate, he said give him $700 and supply all parts. Im just thinking what I should change, have no idea what is required. I'l be happy if the car runs under 15seconds.

That will stop you having to pull the engine out l8r on when you go bigger and better.

The poor man pays twice my friend. Go all out the first time, spending like 5G's rather then spending 3G's and having to rebuild it again later.

Comes down to how much power you want to chase, and then the parts needed as a requirement to hold that power. Set a power goal, and then get your parts accordingly. i think that rebuilding the engine yourself is very achievable for around the 3grand mark, i think i ended up around $2500 or so, however mine is relatively standard. Hypatec pistons + rings $450 Machine work to the block consisted off the following: ~$900 -block decked -bored out 20thou oversize and honed -chemically cleaned -new welch plugs -aluminium grub screws for the crank -crank polished and checked for defects -crank balanced -rods crack tested and made sure they were 100% round Head work ~$400 -Crack tested -Made sure cam tunnel was 100% straight -stronger valve springs -bottom of head decked Wade Cam and lifters ~$250 New water pump ~$70 New cam belt and tensioner ~ $95 Gasket kit ~$120 Nissan Head Gasket ~$65 Bearings ~$120 Me and mate assembled it all, turned out sweet. add about a $1000 for shot peened rods, o-ringed block, ARP rod bolts and head studs. hope this helps.

rings, bearings, welsh plugs, pistons (go to vlt ones or aftermarkert ones) and a full gasket kit

Thanks Mad Wog, I think i have a much better idea now, before i had every mechanic telling me different stuff trying to make more money off me. Has anyone honed their engines? My engine was running great before the ring gave up, my bore might be scratched. Should i hone it or get a second engine? I heard that hone can cost alot.

definately bore and hone it thats the first thing needed

yeah, i just called up a place, they charge $60 to hone, i assume that is total price and not each bore. they also do something with the valves for $60, forgot what it was. Does anyone know what Orings are? My mechanic is offering it to me, but i have no idea what his saying. something about the engine being able to take more boost.

depends on the o-ring your talking about it could mean rubber seals, or how they machine a lip into the top of the cylinder bores to create a better seal with the head gasket when the head is torqued down

I already have my engine pulled apart waiting for it to be honed. He mentioned something about a copper seal, is it a worthwhile job? What would you expect to pay all up for the Oring business?
