Hey Guys.... I'm working on a new Challenge ..... 10 Seconds for 10 Grand. Now many would say it cant be done... and i say and know it can. Ill keep you all updated with nice pictures of everything and so forth and show you that 10 seconds doesn't have to cost 3 times the value of your Calais turbo. All Labour will be done by me and not necessarily billed in the challenge. However if i feel kind enough i may quote the job up. Also I'm working on putting the car as part of the total bill.... so thats complete 10sec package WITH Car for as close to 10k as i can get it. Ill get the ball rolling with what i have this week and what i paid for it. Prelminary Parts List and Prices CAR VL Berlina - $100-$500 - Private Sale Engine RB30E N/A Engine Series 2 - $100 Complete - Forum ECU Microtech ECU - $500 2nd Hand - Forum Fuel System GTR Injectors - $300 - Forum TOTAL SO FAR $1400 TOTAL LEFT $8600 Cheers! -- ---- Costa

Lol, keep in mind that you can pick up a decent body VL with a clapped out engine for $500. WooD, sorry havent heard of it before.... but im up for it anyway.. Purpose is that you dont need mega bucks to get a quick car.... im not saying that you will run 10 seconds and do 50 passes on the track every month but at least youll get to feel what its like, half the boost on the street for daily driving and it will last.

Im lookin forward to seeing how it goes.. I recon it can be done. wont be pretty though lol

Already Shopping for a turbo... either t66 or t04z but it depends on the price. Ill be looking at doing it twincam, rb26 as ive got all the bits to suit so it will be dicey but theory is sound. Ill update the main thread with parts and details as it goes along.

sounds interesting mate what transmission you going to go with? how much power would you need to be making to get into the 10's? also will the car be run in full trim? or you totally stripping everything?

Well if you can do the labour stuff yourself then you have saved thousands already

oso Transmission - i am not sure yet as thats going to be the most expensive single component and most important. AIRGMH - Bolt ons are easy - labor can be done by an apprentice or a mate who knows about cars for the price of beer or even for free. Wyndup - i have parts to build 4 different types of engines.... im doing a twincam rb26 atm so ill probably stick wtih a SOHC setup to save costs.... VL N/A Series 2 - $100 in GC. I really want to buy a 2spd GLIDE and i probably will and go over buget - however if i get a decent 3spd jatco setup cheap that will hold 450kw ill probs use that. Im not aiming for magic power figures... im aming for times so i cant say what kind of power. Ill list the specs and parts i already have . I may build two diff engines (twin cam and SOHC) to prove a concept too depending how extra funds go. The results may not be repeatable - but at least you will know what works and what doesnt from this attempt.

Without the purchase price of the car you could come close... but id hate to see what the reliability is like! best of luck!

Which leaves you with no money , but seriously, the hardest past about doing it is getting a good trans/converter thats the expensive part, ones that will last , the motor/diff and parts are easy as with no labour. cheers darren Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Ill be building two motors for my own reference.. one SOHC one RB26 head same bolt ons..... maybe the RB30 might get a cam and valve spring tweak to help it breath, depends on the dollars. Ive also got an RB25 head that i got for CHEAP less injectors that will be teared down and reco... this may or may not make it into the build i am not sure. Both will be N/A, heads just different etc.... Same ECU and ill see if i can use the DOHC tune on the SOHC as the DOHC engine will be ready. More Pics etc coming up. Reliability - every engine will fail under the right conditions - how long it will last depends... I predict the N/A engine will fail due to cracked ring lands thus heaps of blow by if anything. TRANSMISSION IS THE MOST VITAL PART OF THIS BUILD... **** TRANS = **** TIME simple as that. As i said, i may splurge on a 2spd as ide rather get one trans and be done with it - but as you know its not cheap and half of the budget! If i can pick up a transbrake trans in good order for about 2-3k with a decent converter (3500) ill be laughing. At the end of the day... a 10 sec pass is a 10 sec pass... whether you spend 30k or 10k the time doesnt lie.

Use an Ebay cooler, just to show that they are good.

u can do it u dont need custom plenum or extractors so thers 1100-1600 saving there mite have 2 go with the cheap internals if ur doing that but can be done

The intercoolers that i used to sell rock and perform just as well as the others out there. Ive been to the factories in China and they are very professional. Their equipment would cost over 1 Mil and is very high tech. 600x300x76 intercooler is good for 9s ... 600x300x100 will be good for 8s no worries. Furthermore they are more thermally efficient than a GTR intercooler due to their mass and finning inside. A dry ice box can also be used and made on the cheap. BIGPSI - can you please PM me some info about your trans, as you have run 9.8 with a 3spd jatco. Custom Plenum not required.... at worst i can weld my own up similar to the Rajab one for about $150. Merge Collector Exhaust manifold can be fabricated cheaply as well, as much as the stainless copies depending on your materials and setup. Since so many people are scared of specs and bullsh1t trade secrets - ill show how ive done it all the way. Why? Well why not.... helps people to learn and be aware that when you are buying performance - you are purchasing RELIABLITY. Guys if you want to add more info - please do!

oooh this is exciting me! use the factory turbo exhaust manifold, i like ur idea on the SOHC head with a cam and spring tweak. some good forgies and rods, rebalanced turbo crank, some good ARP head studs and thats most of ur block done for about $2500 i think. box should cost about 2000-2500 if u shop around for a second hand one, diff would cost about 500 2nd hand. so far, thats about 4500-5000. leave 1500 for the turbo and lines. so thats about 6000-6500. plus ur car, injectors, head, car and ecu, adding to about7400-7900. thats all the major parts done for about 8000 and leaving u with a bit of room for other bits and peices or even going for some bettet quality produts! 10 seconds for 10k, sound awesome!

are u going to be strengthing the motor and auto to make it last longer than 5 passes or just enuff so it pulls the 10? to have a reliable package u will struggle with 10g, if u just wanna run the time easy.... GL

Motors will stay N/A untill they blow.... Decomp through cometic metal head gasket 2mm thick. If they blow after testing... ill be cut but change engine $100 lol Engine Rebuild = mega bucks even if you put crappy cast pistons. Machine and cleaning costs are at least 1k. Ill Tear down the engines, check tollerances, hot-tank and re-assemble if i feel it needs it. Its going to be tight and difficult to say the least - but we do these things because they are hard - not easy.... Ill even go as cheap as to borrow slicks to race Anyone wanna lend me a tranny too? hehe Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
