Hey guys, i have been looking into this a bit and got some info regarding it,
You can purchase the chip software for under $300 and get car tuned buy people like the DriftDr for around $300
that makes it very cost effective for a very good tune at an outlay of only $600
i'm wanting to know why more people havn't done this, or more important why people havn't done this
I have spoke the Sam (driftdr) regarding the tune, and the result he get's from the standard nissan ECU's are unbelieveable, always start, retain fuel economiy on the only work u have to do is pulling the ecu out 2 be modified and it been retuned on a dyno for your new setup!
people thoughts etc!
i was thinking about this for a while before my upgrade. it seems fairly cheap, but you'd need to find people who can do it, and it will need a remap again after any future mods. plus its still going to be a 20 year old ECU and wiring with 20 year old technology.
but yes, it's probably quite a cost effective option for those on a tight budget wanting that bit more from the standard ECU.
well your not really re burning the vl computer, your adding another chip for it to run off..
$600 is half the price of a link computer, tuned and installed by JPC, go one of them

yeah but for people who dont want to change their ECU they can do this chip addon like Lars has explained or even go the Microtech piggy back addon along side a good setup run 10's like MRBTI.

What sort of cost would that come to as opposed to getting a new ECU?
imo its irrelevant.. why go a pigy back microtech? the installation is still extensive, requires full retune, and doesnt get you out of any EPA issues as its still an aftermarket computer.
Where as something like the autronic, brand new chopper disk so should fix any problems that crop up with a cas, and allows you to do away with your afm.
The bottom line is your installing a computer to run bigger injectors and to make your expensive engine hold together, you wouldnt go cheap in this department.
i know heaps of people have had it done by Sam (DrDrift) and theres really nothing wrong with the tunes. Theres a few cars off the nissansilvia forum that have ran 10/11 sec passes with it..
yeah i think u guys dont understand about tuning etc,
u get your car tuned, as long as your car can supply fuel for the boost u want to run u will be fine, speaking with sam, he would tune the car and we would find how far the boost could be wound up before it would be dangerous or produce 400hp, sam as also tuned gtr's with remapped standard ecu's making huge hp well over 500kw
for my setup, knowing that everything would work no really out lay or modifications, that it would start first time have fuel economy etc, it's a pretty good deal,
and it get's remapped real time and then when your happy it's writen to the ecu, just the same as taken it to any shop and getting an aftermarket ecu tuned, and how many tunes do u guys get a year? and at $300 tune does it really matter,
u guys don't seem to understand the $$$ that go into a factory computer, etc,
and also to shock a few of u, sam (drdrift) has removed motecs from cars, installed the standard ecu remapped it and produced the same hp, excepted it started first kick and had proper fuel economy
if anyone is interested in this pm me, and i'll give u the extra info
http://home.aanet.com.au/nistune/ here's the web site regarding the chips etc and what they can do (just as good as any after market ecu, and think about this, cop goes over your car and it's all standard ! still uses an airflow meter (depending on mods u would proably need to upgrade to a z32 or mount it into the intercooler piping)
this is sams web site with what he does
http://www.drdrift.com.au/
power figures and numbers from microtech, autronic ect ect speak for them self i personally wouldnt trust a standard remapped ecu in a car you want to go fast in, even if i seen one making 300 k/w i would still go for the microtech or autronic for simple reasons, the numbers are proven power is proven + any one can dyno tune it ect ect thats my look on things.. yours may be different
yet u go to america and they stand buy remapping ecu's and so do alot of companies in Japan
Number of top drift cars in aus use remapped ecu's and are raced all around australia with no issues, i suppose if u are a work shop u would want and recommend the aftermarket ecu's as u can charge more time for tuning and installtion depends how u look at it i suppose, but for all the hassels people have down south with not being aloud after market ecu's makes alot of sense and then u look at the out lay, after market ecu purchase installed and tune u wont see anything out or 2-5 grand, this cost around $600-$800 and depending what hp, we are talking up to around the 450hp mark this is a very cost effective way
people only pay twice if they don't research into something and get ****ed over
I agree with you 100% on this one poohkies. He fly's all around the country tuning cars for people with his box of goodies and has had many fantastic results. As you stated he basically sets up a tune on another chip then burns it in on the dyno and away you go. And you still retain your closed loop, aac and cold start all like a bog stock road car. Plus the benefit of Mr Plod seeing a std ecu if he goes looking.
