Hey people, i have just bought a V8 5L sl Wagon 86 mod........
has 225 XXX on clock, auto, burgandy over silver, and i think the engine is pretty much standard.... got it for $3300 as is, and need F all for a road worthy, now....... what are some of the thingys i should look out for........ as i know more about vl turbo's then the v8's. what go's wrong and what problems do they have with them about this age n km's, what sorta mods should i do 1st up for power increase? what are the gearbox's like in them........? any help would be good, thanx Tyren.
ohh jesus! sorry man. i got all my turbo **** ere 2 sell 2, i got GTR injectors, gt30/40 turbo, extractors, bresciani plenum n sum other **** 2 .......want anything?
The VK / VL black 308's are pretty strong even standard. I have one in my HQ. Do exhaust, whack a cam in it and get it tuned properly with the quadrajet carby ( it its still on it ). That should see a similar power to an EFI 5 litre.
Ok the vl v8 is not a 308 its a 304ci..
ok to start maybee put in a mild cam, performer manifold, and a 650 holley..
then a shift kit (stage 2 i would reccomend),stallie (2200)
then a nice set of extractors (pacemaker i would say) with a twin into one system prob 2 1/2 inch
diff geers probly 3:4.5 LSD
then a nice set of rims...and suspension parts..
ok kool...... the gears in it are realy long!!! its the 1st time i have driven a 3 speed box b4..... what gearbox is in them...... th400 or trimatic? i have asked sum of my mates but they not sure...... are these gearbox's strong at all? changes good how it is for a standards box, but will do shiftkit n all the things HDT 50L said....
Trimatic in the VL, can be beefed up to high levels, they are a good box, underrated. They used to fairly **** house I believe.
It will have a 3.08 diff ratio, combined with 3 speeds can sometimes feel a little sluggish (my old VH had 2.60!!!)
VL V8's wake up with a bigger cam due to the head on them......
sorry but there was NO need to clarify the 304's from VK/L, they are the same block and the same work done should equate in the same performance levels gained. trimatics are awesome autos and esp behind a stocker fivy. you get a proper built trimatic and tell me its still ****, because im sure we both know its not. man gl with the car i got a VK 5.0 black wagz, organising straight gas for it, also mild heads n cam to suit gas, nice torker manifold and a stage 2 trimatic.. providing you take care of it, they are bullet proof engines. very reliable.. gl with it once again!

LOL! I never thought you would settle on such simple mods...
Have you considered taking the engine to Kev White and get him to build it up a little? He rebuilt the 308 in my bro's HJ45 Cruiser (converted to run or prem. unleaded) and it is built to last.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Now that's a damn good question... I will have to remember to ask him the exact cost when I see him later. I think it was a coup'la grand.. But if I get the chance to charge the battery in the cruiser you should come and hear the "*******" with only two foot of exhaust and no mufflers. It's meaner than any car you heard on the road or at a track, all from a Landcruiser LOL!
