Well, as of about 3 months ago I took delivery of a 1987 VLT MX7 Complied shell, with n/a running gear. Rb30e and Auto with 25 spline disc. Airconditioning and Power Steering. Heres the body Engine bay was a mess, briefly cleaned up the exhaust side but gave up when respray drew closer. And the bit that worried me was the rust at the front windscreen Basically my plans are to convert it into a mock Calais, and then restore its original Manual/ Turbo qualities. So here is a list of things to come, Ill try and keep them grouped. Exterior: At the moment its in getting the rust chopped out and prepped. As far as the body goes, Ive got Calais skirts, Calais lower moulds, New screens, tint, new seals, vs seal for the front screen. Calais Lights, new center garnish, pinstripes/ no badge. Calais taillight surrounds. Calais front. No badges. New lights/ indicators. Turismo Mica over Asteroid Silver. Suspension: Not entirely sure at the moment, chasing that up. But basically Koni adjustables at the front- maybe the rear, all bushes replaced, upgraded swaybars front and rear, lowered springs and Adj panhard rod. Interior: Grey S2 Calais seats- Current blue console repainted grey. New Charcoal super plush carpet and bitumen layered underlay. Possibly even more sound deadening material under that. New velour lining from the carpet up to the roof. S2 Grey door trims if I can find some. S1 or custom if I cant. Electric Mirrors and windows are waiting to go in. Gearbox: going Manual, so R33 conversion. Engine: Rb30et Mild Rebuild, t03 hiflow, some kind of custom inlet Rajab Preferred, but Im still deciding. Running stock management for now- trying to leave my doors open for upgrades. Well, thats the plans. So far the rust has been repaired and Im due to get the suspension done and the old interior ripped out completely. Once suspension gets done, the car gets sprayed and all Calais parts get fitted. Then I get it back and put the new interior parts in. Then its a matter of Roadworthy and Rego, Rims, Aircon regas, Alarm Install, Finalise the interior, manual conversion and then build my motor and drop that in. And here are the random Images.. Combine this colour With these wheels Hopefully the interior will be getting started at the end of this week. Depending on suspension.

Well updates all around now. Rust has been removed from the front, and the panel at the back is ready to get replaced. I've stripped the interior completely. Engine bay looks rather good right now with no aircon or power steering, or exhaust manifold, inlet manifold, battery, overflow bottle. We're lifting the engine out on Monday- then I give it two weeks or so for them to fit everything and return it back to me. Then I begin putting the carpet in and re-assembling the dash etc etc. Engines not far off going in for a rebuild if it comes out soon. I still need to find a vlt exhaust manifold and a t03 hiflow for less then 800 dollars. VLT injectors are also needed. I got bored and cleaned up the inlet.. Heres some random pictures again.

How did you clean the inlet? like...what did you use?

Wire Brush attachment on the end of a drill. I got it from a Repco parts bin for 3 dollars for two wheels. Best investment I've ever made.

Engines and Auto are out as of today. I'll finish tidying the interior tomorrow, few things to rip out, door trims are partly off. So I just have to get the winders off and then they can come out. Tuesday it goes in to get painted. I'll go chasing engine quotes Monday again.

Well.. Update. Car got picked up today.. It rained the entire day and there was talk of hail, So I'm having some nervous few days.. Looks like I might have to talk to the panel beater at the end of the week and discuss colours. Then I've got a few things to do with the engine and.. I feel so close.

Rim choice is proving rather difficult, I've changed my mind about 10 times in the past two weeks. Purely because I don't want something that’s too expensive and then I don't want anything that’s too big.. I want 18" ideally. And I don't want anything that won't suit. Current few choices have been HSV VY GTS's oh yeah! Then price tag kinda scared me off and I've dropped back to Fr18's for now. Silver center polished outter. Car is at the panel beaters, the rear rustage panel has been replaced with a nice clean panel. Apparently the bay is all smoothed out now. So it won't be long til I get it back partially sprayed. I'm just currently working on where I'm getting my engine built

Engines in getting Built as of yesterday. Should have that back next wednesday. Told the panel beater I want the car itself back next Friday. Next Saturday engine in, then spending the rest of the time re-assembling other various broken bits. Good old brake lines seem to round off too easy. Then once the engines mostly back in - Not sure how intense I'm going to go with re-installing just yet. But it gets taken back off my hands and then all new stuff fitted and final exterior paint done. Screens put in and then returned to me. Then just the final bits, interior, roof lining, tailshaft, brakes, power steering, aircon, stereo back in, alarm in.. Ahh I can see the light.

haha, yeah I know, I rang him before and he said its smoothed and undercoated and engine bay, door jams and boot painted ready to get dropped off. I didn't believe him but he's got a deadline, fingers crossed either way. More pics when I get it back.

Inlet was just a wire brush attachment on a drill. i've since gone and gotten a hole set of the damn things. Love them - Doing the the bottom half now as thats the only part I'll be keeping. Trying to figure out whether I'm going to powdercoat the fuel rail or just polish it up as best I can myself.
