When i take off fairly hard at the lights or whatever, the car sort of skips if that makes sense, or if im taking off and its on a slight hill it also does it. Its not really bad, but im a picky ******* and its noticeable, i immediatly thought the diff, wondering if any of you blokes could give us a hand? Cheers Max.

lol. I promise you it is nothing to do with my driving ability, it's the car. I guess i could explain it like this, it seems like when you first take off like the car struggles like there is an extremely overweight person in the drivers seat (don't ask, i'm not ), then you get higher in the revs and change to second and she's all sweet. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

put a fat guy into the passengers seat as drew said try the centre bearing mine sort of skips on a hard or loaded launch i know my centre bearing has play but i also suspect it needs unis and maybe an axle its not enough of a bother for me to check it yet tho i havnt driven it for over 2 months now

Im not sure if this is relavent or not but mine use to shudder alot when i took off under load when i planted my foot and it turned out to be that my drive shaft was out of balance. just took it off and got it re-balanced and also put new universals in it.

I thought this was a common problem with VL's. In some other thread it was mentioned that it was the angle of the tailshaft or something.

how much does it cost to get your tailshaft balanced?

does this happen all the time? and are the tires spinning when taking off hard......the reason i ask is cause it could be axle tramp, this happens when the tires loose traction and then grip, then spin, than grip..etc. only thing that fixes that is new shocks in the back. does it do the same thing when you try to do a 2nd geary, it could be the clutch also. i think if it was the tailshaft it would do it all the time, or at least at a certain speed. the centre bearing would make a clucking sound when accellerating and decellerating.

Yes, it happens all the time, unless i take off really slowly, like i said though its not a massive problem really. The wheels don't spin that easily, need to be giving it a bit of stick for that or plant it around a corner, as you do. Mum isn't too kean on that with the Ls up tho. Also, the shocks have recently been replaced, so it's not them and no it doesn't happen in second gear, only in first.

from what you have said mate, i get the same problem, some ppl say its a colapsed bearing or something to do around the first gear. i had a guy tell my it could be a cross member but yeh it dosent sound good.

I'll get mechanics to check it out this week...hopefully nothing to major. I'll let you know what my diagnosis is Maco.
