Well ive heard around that you can get a 'starwars calais cluster' im not sure if that is the 'official' name or not. But its basically the type of cluster that lights up on the speedo from 1 - 200 say like in the old 'night rider' tv show. Its like a bar, and gets bigger and bigger the faster you go. Does anyone know what im talking about? I also heard that the 1988/89 magna had it as an option as well.
Well i have a V8 series 2 VL and i was curious as to if they come out with the starwars cluster. As i would like to put one in.
If they didnt come out with the V8, how hard is it to modify the cluster to work from a 6 cylnder to the V8 cylnder? Like the water temp/oil pressure/tacho. Is there any difference in the speedo itself between a 6 and a V8?
Also if people have heard of the starwars cluster, is that the correct name?? And what kind of price would i be looking at for one??
Thanks guys
Man, I think your talking bout the VK Calais dash, and Yes they can be modified to fit VL's. (not sure bout V8's, but should be ok) There was a dude that had done in a while back. Do a search for the thread.
Yeah i think your thinking of the VK dash.. and yeah theirs a thread somewhere about putting it in the vl.. but be warned.. it's not an easy job..
Also the vl 6, 6turbo and 8 dashes are the same... calais, berlina and exec are a little different.. looks wise.. 1 has a clock and the other has a rev tacho and a few other goodies, i.e vac, battery etc...
who the hell would want a vk calais dash. the tachos on them are hard to read and they are that bright and distracting that you need sunnies to drive the car. Nothing beats needles on dials for ease to read.

Could you post some pics of it please
Just for the record, VL calais where suppose to come out with an electronic dash. But believe it or not the night before release the calais electronic dash was axed. Apparently holden had some issues so they were removed and replaced with what you see today. All the electroic dashes were crushed.
Funny thing is a mate of mine actually found one that never made it to the crusher and found it's way into his VL BT1.

these dashes are boss, if you cant read the tacho then u need to go back to primary school and learn to count.
would love to see a pic of that VL electronic dash you mentioned.
I do know that in the Holden parts catalogue it shows a trip computer in that blank on the left hand side of the dash. I made some enquiries to VDO about it as they make all those dashes and the official word was, "even if you gave us $10,000 it still wouldn't be worth our time". Shame, as I'd buy one (not for $10,000 though) and i'm sure plenty of other VL owners would too.
have a look at the pics in this thread and tell me if this what your talking about.

no its the one a bit further down, across from the 24/7 newsagent "we never sleep".
interestingly enough, the VL was originally going to keep the electronic dash that the VK had. i read a vl 'preview' article in a 1985 magazine a friends dad had lying around and it even had pictures of it.
Really? Didn't know that.....Oh wait I did cause somebody posted that info half way up!!! Only playing mate.
I reckon they would look good. But would rather have one from a soarer or corvette. VK's do look a tad dodgey.
