Ok, this is what I currently have: - Sony Xplode Head unit 45 x 4 - Sony Xplode 6x9's in the rear parcel shelf. This is what i'm thinking of doing: - 2 x 12" Sony Xplode subs 800 wRMS - 1 or 2 amps.... - front speakers with tweeters the subs will be put in a custom box in the boot and the amp/s will be mounting somewhere in the boot... ok i went to JB HIFI and they quoted me $1150 for front speakers, 2x12" subs, 1 amp and cables all sony gear... Idealy i would like to have everything going off amps so the 2 subs off one amp and the speakers off the other amp. the guy at jb said i would have to have to amps unless i wanted to spend a great deal more now i dont know alot about audio gear so thats why i'm asking ur opinions, what type of amp would i need to run the subs, what type of amp would i need to run the speakers. it doesn't matter if they are sony xplode or a different brand... i dont want to spend too much but something around the $1100-1300 all up i would be happy with... also there were three different sony xplode subs, 800wRMS, 900wRMS, 1000wRMS, whats the difference? i'm not looking for the biggest and loudest sub just something that has enough bass and good quality (i dont want my car rattling to pieces....

Go the 800 watters, they sound pretty decent for their price. Power them with a 4x50w(+) rms amp, bridged into two channels. Then grab a 2x50w(+) amp for your splits, and you're done dude! Make sure you get a nice and clean amp for your fronts, so go big name. Because its only a 2 channel amp, it shouldn't be too expensive. Then go for a cheapie for your subs. Something with heaps of power... doesn't need to be overly clean power if only ised for bass. So go for Boss audio or Audioline or something for a cheapie amp. Cheers dude.

Is there a particular reason why you are sticking with SONY gear?? Sony is alrite stuff but there is definately much better out there. Instead of the Sony subs, maybe look at a pair of JL 12W0's or sumfin along those lines, they love power, then for splits, well i've heard sony splits leave a lot to be desired. take a look around and listen to heapsa different splits to find what sound good to you, leave around $300 for splits ( i picked up a pair of Phoenix Gold Tantrum 6.5" splits for $319 and they are nice!). now that should all come to around $900 at quoted prices tho you should be able to get the subs for around $500 with a lil hagling. Then look at getting a RESPONSE 4x100WRMS amp which bridges to 2x300WRMS, which'll run the JL Subs nicely and that'll be ~$370. so that shud come to roughly $1170 which is pretty close to ur quoted setup only shud be much better. set aside an extra $100 for 4ga power wire and fuse holder/fuse etc an u'll be laughin. And then, maybe look at an amp for the fronts as Burgandy suggested around 50WRMS would do nicely.

thanks for all the info guys!!! i was told that if you have all the same gear (in this case Sony) then it sounds alot better than mixing everything around... is that true?

so would that second amp with 2 channels only do the front speakers? wouldn't i want to put the fronts and rears on the second amp? which i assume would need to be a 4 channel? (im just guessing at this cos this is what sounds logic to me, but i may be wrong...)

No that is definately not true about having all the same brand sounding better. The best sounding systems will have a variety of different brands choosing the best sounding item from each brand. for instance one brand might make excellent subs, but have very average speakers, or great amps but poor subs etc. And about the second amp, i dont really see the need for you to amp the rear speakers, as they are, only rear fill and would be faded mostly out anyway, so leaving them run of the H/U shuold be sufficient. Probably better to stick with a 2 channel just for the fronts. and the just run ~150uf Capacitor inline with the rear speakers to cut some of the bass out of them.

ok cool, thanks vl commy!!! ok u mentioned b4 4ga power wire, is that 4 gage wire? what size fuse would i need? and where would it go? 150uf capacitor inline with the rear speakers what does this mean? (i know most terms but some i dont know...) where could i get a wiring diagram from? that shows the h/u, front speakers, rear speakers, 2 subs and 2 amps and where all the wires are meant to go and where the fuse and capacitor go... thanks again. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yes 4ga power wire is 4 gauge. the size fuse you needs depends upon the current draw from the amps you decide to get, and should placed as close to the battery as possible, preferably no further than 8" away. The capacitors should go on the positive speaker wires, as in run the wire to 1 pin on the cap, then the other pin to the + terminal on the speakers. Not quite sure what you're talking about with the wiring diagram??

like just a wiring diagram showing me where all the wires should go, but now that i think about it there should be something included with the amp when i get that telling me where each wire should go... hey how do i bridge an amp together as u mentioned above from 4x100wrms to 2x300wrms?

on channels 1 and 2, run the + from channel 1 to the subs +, and the - from channel 2 to the subs -. Do the same for channels 3 and 4.

this is what i have so far: h/u: sony 45w x 4 CDX-3600 rears: sony xplode 6x9" 180w max xs-V6921 and i'll go with the following: fronts: listen to a few different ones, see what i like subs: 2 x 12" JL 12W0 amp for subs: audioline 4x100wRMS bridged to 2x200wRMS amp for fronts: i'll have a look at what there is... i've sort of designed how i'm going to set it all up in the boot so once i do some better drawings i'll post em up and take photos when i'm putting it all in...

out of interest, how much are you getting the audioline amp for?? are you sure its 4x100WRMS?? i've never seen a 4x100WRMS Audioline amp. Also dont expect them to actually produce that much power, they tend to be rather over-rated.

ummm not sure if it was an audioline amp, haven't been down to have a look at them again... i was just thinking thats what i'll try for, whether is audioline or another brand, as long as its 4x100wRMS

just make sure it is the RMS ratings you go by. If the shop assistant tells you its just half the max rating, thats BS. quite often something rated at 1000W max or 800W max on a cheap brand amp will really be closer to 4x75WRMS. Personally i dont think you're gonna find another 4x100WRMS with the same quality as the Jaycar Response for less $$$.

oh that amp u were talking about was a Jaycar Response??... i didnt know that... so would i get that amp from jaycar? thats a good amp for its price is it?

yeh Jacyar Response. They are a very good amp for the price. Not likely to find another amp with similar power at that price. You'd be looking at around $370 - $380 for 1

so where do you get that amp from?

hold up one sec dude. The jaycar response 100x4wrms amp actually puts out about 75x4wrms. That being said, they're still quite good amps. There's really nothing wrong with Audioline amps or Boss Audio for that matter, just look at quoted rms vs dollars. With all three amps, they quote more than they actually push, but they'll all be pretty similar. Value for money wise, I'd go Kicker EX124 subs. Unreal price from Strathfield and you'll be hard pressed finding subs that perform as well for under $300. They also run particularly well at lower power levels, so you'll find that for a given power lever below approx. 300wrms, they'll run better than most subs out there. Above that power level and they start to loose their cool. As for splits, one of the best buys I've seen in a while are the jaycar Response Kevlar splits for $200 (code: CS2298). These splits definately sound very nice when amped. Cheers big fella
