Can someone help me out with the different types of tail lights. I keep seeing different types (especially in the dark). what are the ones with the + sign in the tail lights? and can normal exec lights be turned into dark tinted one or is this how they are bought. I DESPERATELY WANT DARK TAIL LIGHTS.... HOW?

as far as i know there are three types of VL tail lights. The most common being the Executive - grey outer plastic, with non tinted lenses. Next is Berlina - grey outer plastic, with black pin striped lenses, giving a tinted look. and the last is the Calais. black outer plastic, black pinstriped bottom lens, and silver pinstriped top lens. You can buy a spray pack of tint for your lights, i can't remember the name of it, or if its legal though.

its called niteshades and i dunno if its legal but it does say "for off road use only" on the can. works good though as long as you do it properly, ie. tape it all up and do a few thin coats.

I doubt that there's any way it would be legal. Also there would be more chance of someone not seeing your brake lights and running up the back of your VL!!! An example of  'Fashion over reality and commonsense' Not a good idea to do.

i did it on my calais coz i had ****ty lights so i just took everything off them so they were plain put niteshades on. can see in my accident pics what it looks like. i never got to finish them, but the niteshades doesnt block out your tail lights much at all. they are still easily seeable.

On some cars I've seen with tinted tail lights you can hardly see the brake lights or blinkers...that's asking for trouble from the police or other drivers. Why would you bother anyway ?????? Send me the cash instead!! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i had to tint mine. they looked like exec lights, the tinting made heaps of difference. you can choose how dark you want them to go. i put 2 coats of niteshades on i think and it was dark enough that it looked good but you could still see the lights easy.

Get berlina lights and paint the grey parts black, instant "legal" Group A lights! make sure you get the black centre too.

Hey fellas, Just grab some SL Lights and mask the main parts and spray the surrounds black. When you're done there, drag out a nicko pen and do the little stripes. Looks pretty damm good as you will see below. And just take the centre panel out and spray it black... can't see its gonna take you much more than a few hours and shouldn't cost any more than $30. I must admit though, i didn't actually do this myself, i bought them off Jay... anyway they look sweet. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Tinting rear tail lights is illegal. If someone happens to hit you from behind, they can claim not to have seen your brake lights, putting you in the wrong. Also, I'm sure police or RTA don't like tinted stock lights... I think the best bet would be to purchase some Berlina or Calais tail lights, legal, and they look tough!

Isn't the Black or Grey surrounding of the taillights a series 1 and 2 thing. My HDT Corsa (Berlina based) being an 86 model has the black surrounds and the HDT Berlina Sport Turbo (late 87) had the grey surrounds on it. Corsa

All to do with the actual model not the year From memory SL's and Execs had the grey centre panel. Berlinas and Calais had the black and of course the different tail lights

I've got a Berlina with white pinstriping that's been put over every second black pinstripe on the rear tail lights.....if you've got a bit of spare time to waste, it looks alright.

I sprayed my surroundings black on my exec. Then went down to autobard and bought two rolls of 3mm black pinstripping. Sit down on the lawn on a nice day, and bob's ur uncle, SS Group A / berline style lights (berlina lights acutally have grey around the side of the tail light)
