As vlkid88 said u can use the MX7 speedo drive which fits perfect as it has the same gear as the r33 speedo drive.

hey thanks to every 1 for answering my questions earlier in the thread.. these boxes are unreal! shifts smooth as.only problem i came across was that i cross threaded the hole where the clutch line goes into the master cylinder. luckly theres plenty of metal on the vl 1s and i tapped it out to 1/4 bspt and machined up a conversion style bolt to fit.

ive just blown a bearing on my MX7, deciding whether to go for a low km r33 box or get the mx7 rebuilt, going to end up at roughly the same price. what do you guys think?? rebuilt MX7 or low km R33 from a jap importer??

Obviously the R33, otherwise people wouldn't other making an R33/R34 manual conversion thread. Waaay tougher dude. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Guys my mf5 isn't liking being behind the turbo motor at the moment so I'm going to have to look into getting the r33 box pretty soon. Have the prices for the boxes dropped at all or am I still looking at big numbers? How much have you been paying and where from.

Hey Bax, they're frequently going for $1200-$1500 mark on eBay (varies depending on condition/age and whats included).

Just read whole thread. Seems R33 is the way to go but i reckon putting the r33 gear set into the mx7 housing sounds like less hassle overall. Opinions? any1 want mx7 parts pm me. 3rd gear blown. $50 for the lot...

Are kidding? How many people do you think will want to sell you a R33 gearset? An R33 bellhousing and extension housing are pretty useless. Besides, you need the correct tools to replace the input and idler shaft bearings. Just buy the complete box. I'm going to throw this out there and also say that an R33 gearset will not even fit an MX7 housing.

Yeah, I can't imagine the effort of swapping the gearset into an MX7 is even remotely close to the work of putting a 33/34 box in. Anyone with half a mechanical brain could put it together, it's like a jigsaw, everything falls into place.

na of cousre i would buy the box complete and gearbox place quoted me 150 to swap the gearset over which he suggested originally cause he has done it before. I got 3 starter motors a spare sandwhich plate and i wouldnt have possible hasssles with flywheel and clutch cylinder. In the end guys throughout the whole thread have said things will or wont work but you know the mx7 housing u took out fits... Then again i guess more guys would have done it that way if it was a better way 2 go.
