i have a few questions 2, i have a VL exec, was 3L, that i an half way through putting a worked VN 5L an T56 gearbox, has any1 done this conversion before? does any1 know if the shifter lines up with the hole on the floor or do i need an aftermarket shifter? an what tail shaft do i use on do i get 1 custom made? what is the easiest way to fit a twin 2.5in exhaust through? (i am considering running straight gas, therefore dont need much of a petrol tank an was thinking or getting it chopped down an running exhaust down each side) will an exhaust fit down the drivers side with decent ground clearance as it doesnt have the lump in the floor under the front seat like the passenger side does.

use the front section that suits the t56 and use a vl rear section to complete the tailshaft

no im usin standard vl manual pedal box, they are both hydraulic, im thinking i might have to upgrade to bugger master cylinder? and i duno if mix matching tailshafts will work as the have different centre bearings and the difference in lengths of the car, and also dont think it would handle the power i am hopein to put out, plannin on around 450 - 500hp atfw ---------- Post added 19-04-12 at 10:53 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by Wkd_Vl [View Post] ah ok great . there wont leak you reckon coz theres no flare on the ends you can buy a flareing tool for bout 15 bucks at a hardware place, they use them for copper pipe plumbing

the t56 tailshaft has a rubber joints on the end, and is a totally different tailshaft, and i doubt that the vl tailshaft would be strong enough

Might sound like an odd question, but is there any drama running the Air Con with this conversion? A mate of mine who is an ex Holden mechanic told me that the A/C can foul on the sway bar? Any one who has actually done the conversion had any problems? Thanks

just finished trial fitting my engine and yes, the a/c pulley was fouling on the sway bar. aftermarket bar, so larger diameter, but can't imagine there would be a heap of difference with a std one.

Can I ask what aircon bracket you are using. I think there are a couple around. A cast alloy one that incorporates the drivers engine mount and a welded steel bracket.

Actually, on second thought i don't think it was the a/c pulley itself. I think it was just an idler pulley for the a/c belt. ---------- Post added 17-08-12 at 21:04 ---------- Will check out the bracket next time I'm in the shed and let you know.

Any ideas on how to get around this? Surely someone has A/C on their 304 Vl?

Had a/c compressor and bracket on mine, the one incorporated in the engine mount bracket. Didn't have it hooked up but I'm pretty sure it didn't foul anywhere. Taken it out now so no pics unfortunately

Is that a genuine bracket? Or an aftermarket? Would you be willing to sell yours if you still have it, or any ideas where I could get one from? Thanks.

Thanks Its the a/c idler that touches the sway bar,use a smaller belt for less adjustment it'll be fine

Here are some pics of my ac bracket. If the pulley was fitted and adjusted fully down it may foul as there is only 10 to 15mm clearance between the swaybar and bottom of the bracket. I have never had a compressor and pulley fitted so I am not sure if it would need to be adjusted that low.

I just ran the standard set up when i did mine years back and had no dramas with the a/c fouling on the sway bar. If the tensioner pulley is dropping too low and fouling on the sway bar, you may want to try and slighter smaller belt.

Hi all I am new to this forum but need some help if possible. I have a VH commodore and have put a vn 304 in. It is wired and starts but I have not yetr wired the speed sensor that I got from MOree Conversions or the auto lockup up. I have three wires from the speed sensor. They are black/white, purple/white, pink/blue. Any ideas where I need to connect these in the vh?? Also have three from the lockup plug on the auto - red/white, light blue, pink/blue, any ideas where these need to go?? I have almost finished my resto and need to sort this out to finish the interior and get ready for rego. Hope you guys can help. Thanks

How do the guys that have done this conversion find the combination of the 3.45 diff gears and the Turbo 700 box? Would you keep the 3.45s, or change to another ratio? I've got a VL turbo diff to rebuild for my project, but I'm wondering if its worth running 3.7s instead of the 3.45s?
