27-09-11, 08:36 GMT+10#241 wtf olive oil?
yeah, when you drive it will spray all over your car.
anyways, polishing... i do mine, wait for it... every 6 months with purple polish.
between polishes, i use the car wash brush on them and they look good. however, i do drive 120 kays per day for work, so keeping my car spotless is VERY difficult.

11-10-11, 15:26 GMT+10#243 Ive been mucking around with polishing for awhile now, 2 tips i can give you all to save alot of time and energy.
If wheels are painted, use a paint stripper first to get rid of paint, so much easier then sanding to remove the pairt.
Use an orbi sander at the start get clean up wheels, remove machine lines, etc, saves time, energy and makes the job a hell of alot easier.

Best thing to do is mask up the whole rim and paint those little checkout/holes black and they always look immaculate, its near impossible to bet all the brake dust out. I did it and they look great.

It did cross my mind to do that but I did manage to get em immaculate by diluting water with hydrochloric acid and scrubing them with a tooth brush then hosing the rim down to get the left over acid off.

24-04-12, 11:45 GMT+10#251 where are people buying polishing mops from that are suited for a drill. Bunnings have a pretty ordinary range and most come in a kit which means buying the drill attachment again.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

Hey,
here is a guide on polishing calais rims.
Items required
Degreaser
180 grit wet and dry
400 grit wet and dry
800 grit wet and dry
1500 grit wet and dry
Unstitched polishing wheel
Polishing compound
Metho or Turps
Step One
Degrease the rim and remove the wheel weight
Step Two
Use the 180 grit paper and sand off all the machining lines
Step Three
Use the 400 grit paper and wet sand out the scratches from the 180. Easiest way to do this is sand at a different angle to the 180, that way it is easy to see when u have sanded enough.
Step Four
Repeat step three except using 800 grit wet and dry.
Step Five
Repeat step three except using 1500 grit wet and dry
Step Six
I used a 150mm loose leaf polishing mop (mean't for a bench grinder) and adapted it to suit a drill.
This is the compound I used, it is an aluminium polish.
Apply compound to the mop and polish away. Polish from all differnt angles appling more compound as required. If the mop gets dirty u can clean it in a bucket of warm soapy water. Continue polishing until u get the desired finish.
Step Seven
Use abit of metho on a rag and remove any excess polish left on the rim. You should now have something that looks like this
This is only a guide of what I did and I do not take any responsibility for your actions
Hey mate I seen what u did to the Calais rims looks perfect brand new from the
Shop but I was wondering if u could do that to a set of vt international wheels ??
