gold cal, the R33 Skyline runs a digital speedo, with an electric speedo sender unit on the box. You need to renove the standard Skyline sender, and replace it with the analogue MX7/Navara unit mentioned above. How's the accuracy of your speedo now Bax?

Still off because of my diff gears, but pretty close. I think it's about 10% off.

Ah, that's about the same as my housemate's stock two year old Camry. :P

so whats the go? just go for the navara unit, and leave the gear that comes standard on the navara speedo drive on, and bolt it in, im assuming speedo will read slightly out as the gears are a different size, but least the speedo will work.

hey guys is there i diff between a "r33 turbo" and a r33 "non tubo box" both been 5 speed manual. cheers

Yes, there very much is. Non turbo is a smaller and weaker box. RUkidn: yeah, that's it. Speedo should be 100%, as it's a factory speedo unit.

Can neither confirm nor deny, but it'll have more synchros than the MF5. MF5 is the bottom of the food chain.

Having just purchased this exact part, I can tell it sure as hell aint the same as the drive I pulled out of my gearbox. As other people have found, the gear is a different size, and there is no tab on the drive to fix it to the gearbox. If you are considering this mod, I suggest you check out the pics posted earlier in this thread to see if your speedo drive is the same as the the part shown.

What box are you trying to fit it to? Can you post some pics of what drives you have, because this thread is getting completely lost amongst which is the correct drive.

I purchased the Navara drive unit, using the part number supplied in this thread. On inspection it is clear to see that the Navara unit has a much smaller gear on the end. I fail to see how this can mesh with the gear inside the gearbox. I was unable to test the function of the unit as my driveshaft is currently away being modified. I'll post some pics in a week or so when I next go to work on my car.

The gear on the VLT/Navara pinion assembly is the right size to make your VL speedo read correctly with 3.45diff gears. It fits. No mods. Mounts to the R33 box identically to how it mounts to the VLT Box. You can use the mounting bolt and tab from your old VL gearbox. The gear on the end of the electronic R33 sender is bigger in diameter because it is calibrated to work with the electronic speedo in the skyline. If you fitted a mechanical drive with a gear that big to a VL the speedo would read miles out!. Pic attached. The electronic unit (red) is from the R33. The mechanical unit (Black) is from the Navara. Just to clarify, that Nissan part number (32702-02G17) is what you got when you went to Holden and purchased the genuine Holden part for a VL Turbo. when it turned up it was in a Nissan Box with 32702-02G17 on it. Of course Nissan don't list any parts for a VL commodore, but when the number was cross checked it showed up as a Navara speedo drive. The only difference was Holden charged you $90plus, and Nissan only stung you about $40.

just read thru this whole thread, as i am doing an mx7 to r33 conversion soon, i must thank some of you because there is so much info in here, but really there is so many contradictions in this thread i feel i am now worse off having read this thread, and feel even more confused than ever. hopefuly it will become clearer with the boxes and motors sitting infront of me, i will take some photos along the way to hopefuly clarify some of the misconceptions in this thread.

I wouldn't say you could really judge the speedo being out by 1Km/h without having it tested. The VL speedo system can very easily display an incorrect speed via a twisted speedo cable.
