Quote: na it dosnt have a tag like that,iv checked it,but how can it have headrest mountings standard and a standard alarm?? Headrest mountings are easily welded in with the correct measurements, and the factory alarm was an option on all models, but it is far more likely that it was swapped over to your car from the donor calais. Re-births were common here but i dont think that is the case with yours. We had an 85 VK Royale, with aussie tags, and no engine number!

VL 5.0L V8s... I've only ever seen 2 in real life in my 18 months of being into VLs, they don't seem very common, were there many brought into NZ? What do they go like, they only put out similar power to an RB30, but that extra 2 litres and 2 cylinders must equate to something?

They are uncommon because they were much more expensive being imported AND were subject to "Big Car Tax". Its a hotly debated topic which one was better, and Im on the 6cyl side, in ULP form the V8 wasn't that hot, It had more torque, but the six cylinder car had less weight, better gearing, the option of a manual box, less weight, and far better fuel economy, as well as a cheaper price. The V8 had 122kw, the 3.0 makes 114kw. The V8's saving grace is that is detuned, therefore if you dump the EGR, a decent cam and some extractors will really wake it up.

I'd be keen for a factory VL V8 Calais, do the cam, extractors, a Brock Group A air induction kit/ or cold air tray. And maybe make a HDT LE/ Sport/ SV88 replica, momo stars etc. It wouldnt be as fast as a VL turbo, but would a little different.
