Ahaha here's one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-154436551.htm (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Holden/auction-154436551.htm) :P Mine is a hell of alot straighter than that! Takes a long time to find a 3L manual wagon if that's what you're after..

A car will run without an alternator until the battery loses its charge. The alternator is what powers the entire electrical system. 5-10 mins until the battery dies is normal.

Yeah not the best idea to run without an alternator

Ok, here's something to confuse my situation more.. The 3 cars I have checked all have the same alternator, which I assumed was Hitachi because they don't have a plastic cover.. anyway I got the one out of my wagon, and it's Bosch (and the bearings sound a bit rough), then we get to clearing out some parts in search of an alternator, we found one but it's a Bosch with the plastic cover, and the plugs are completely different so I can't use it. So I took the brush holder out (the regulator is part of that right? I can't tell cause this kind of alternator isn't in the Gregory's manual..) and one of the brushes is worn way down, and the slip ring that it runs against is worn down more than the other one too.. So here is where I think I'm at, I should get a whole replacement alternator to solve the bearing issue while I'm at it, but I need the same kind of alternator that I have now otherwise my loom won't fit it.

Send it down to an auto sparky and get new bearings and brushes fitted.

I went to repco and its $55 for one brand that'll fit and $74 for a Bosch regulator (with brushes). So I'm gonna take the part numbers into BNT and see if they have them, and take the alternator into work and see what my boss thinks about the bearings. The guy put in the part number off the regulator.. Fords came up..

I know what you mean, but BNT isn't open at 4 oclock Sunday afternoon I'm gonna open it up at work tomorrow and see what I can do about the bearings, the big nut on the fan doesn't wanna budge at the moment. 12maneym, does he work in the trade or does he just do that sort of thing? I'd be happy with $85 haha Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
