Mine wasn't good even in the dry with 255s. I didn't have the balls to drive it in the wet once supercharged

Or you can have the kickdown disconnected as is the case with mine, not by choice though... LOL Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

LOL The TH400 was vacuum kickdown via the vac modulator and a full manifold vac feed. It should still kickdown just not at wide open throttle as there isn't enough vacuum. There should be a kickdown solenoid on the passenger side of the trans towards the back - it'll have 1 or 2 spade terminals coming off it. You need to wire it up to the detent (kickdown) switch by the accelerator. The reason i know all this is i found mine wasn't kicking down very well when i put the boot in... and it appears that is the reason. Mine isn't 100% how i would like it but it's a lot better than it was. You should connect 12 volt directly to the solenoid and make sure it is making a clicking noise before you bother wiring it all up - if it isn't then the solenoid may need replacing - if it is then it should be sweet to be wired up properly. It was a bit of a pain getting the detent switch sorted as it was the 6 cylinder switch and due to the V8 not having as much travel in the accelerator pedal i had to piss about to get it to contact the switch as wide open throttle. If you have any more questions or need any help just PM me and i will do my best. Cheers, J Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Oh... i just had a thought - does it shift up automatically or do you have to move it up through the gears also? The auto could have been changed to a full manual valve body (i think that is the term) Basically if that's been done then you need to shift through the gears manually. Check the vacuum line running down to the vac modulator - if that isn't connected at the trans or at the manifold/carb or if the line is cracked/broken then you won't be getting a kickdown either. Catch ya

Have a look at the kick down wire that goes to the solnoid as it may have got burn't off by your extractors Drivers side of the box right beside the extractor pipe,Or it may be disconnected from the engine loom,It goes down(single wire)by the auto dipstick. That assists a kickdown. That's the same wire i was talking about - but being a transplant trans i just figured that whoever installed it didn't bother with it. Also i'm quite sure the solenoid is on the passenger side of a TH400 - i think it may be on the driver's side of the Trimatic.

Also chances are the TH400 will be stronger than the manual replacement also... Oh and that isn't even mentioning clutch replacement/upgrades...

I went auto first in my VL when I did the EFI V8 conversion, then later changed to manual, and I can tell you now that a decent manual setup costs around 3 times the price

But still to get a half decent manual setup it isn't cheap.

ok guys another stupid question I was reading thru a thread and mike (sikvlt) was looking for advice on what to get for a new intercooler setup (cant remember what thread). anyway he said that he went to a shop or something and they suggested adapting a kit from a skyline. and he said he walked off and laughed. can i ask why? in my honest opinion (i dont know too much about the differences in the 2 cars with regards to intercoolers) i would have thought that would be a good idea, as the placement of the intake/throttle body and exhaust manifold/turbo is the same (well pretty much). I would guess that the VL bonnet is longer (dont have a skyline to compare it too) so you'd just have to extend the piping a little bit wouldnt you? I know its a dumb question but I had to ask coz I couldnt figure out what would be so wrong with adapting a skyline kit?

LOL Just stick a clutch lever on the gear shifter (Although that'd be another problem.. you use your left hand for accelerating/braking don't you? Hill starts would be interesting) Might need to build up some serious wrist and hand strength to deal with a car clutch though Quote: Originally Posted by madrx3boy ok guys another stupid question I was reading thru a thread and mike (sikvlt) was looking for advice on what to get for a new intercooler setup (cant remember what thread). anyway he said that he went to a shop or something and they suggested adapting a kit from a skyline. and he said he walked off and laughed. can i ask why? in my honest opinion (i dont know too much about the differences in the 2 cars with regards to intercoolers) i would have thought that would be a good idea, as the placement of the intake/throttle body and exhaust manifold/turbo is the same (well pretty much). He was after a 'no holes' kit (doesn't want to chop his his factory turbo body..), might aswell be going custom if you're thinking of adapting a set up for another car. Hang on a minute, he's converted to Calais spec and sprayed it in a non factory colour, so why care about a couple of holes in the engine bay?
