Just a quick question that one of you guys may be able to help me with... i'm an ex kiwi living in perth and heading back home to aucks soon. What's the story with bringing my VLT with me? I know they've cut down on imports, and won't let anything over like 6 years old in the country, but I also thought that anything over 20 years old is considered a classic and has an excemption... any clues? otherwise I'll have to just buy a rolling body and put all my turbo bits into a new shell...

Yes you can bring it here!!! if its 20 years or older...you need all the paperwork before you do prooving you own it before it gets here etc....email the LTSA here they will help or ring them!!! they were most helpful when I asked!!!
Pretty sure direct injection will feature on the VE upgrade. Who has a TT version of this motor calais3L?
I think Holden would have to spend more money on upgrading their drivelines, because that is currently their achilles heel. The current setup is pretty much on its limit in the HSVs, which is one of the reasons why the LS3 endowed models haven't gained any torque, only 10kW, which I doubt will make any difference to its performance. It also means that an XR6 turbo is faster than any HSV! Although HSV claim a 0-100 of 4.9 for a Clubby, no-one apart from HSV test pilots have managed to achieve this. Think they actually do a 5.3.
Saab gets the TT, but only as a 2.8, Alfa Romeo gets the DI 3.2, and Cadillac gets a DI 3.6 which will be VE's next major update. The reason holden does not have this technology is because the GM big wigs want it all to be introduced first on its premium brand cars.
Saab. Haha, they still make cars?! The motors in the Alfas and Caddys do only loosely resemble the Holden ones tho. For starters the Alfa motor actually looks and sounds good, unlike the vacuum cleaner that is the Holden V6!
I think you'll find the cost of direct injection may have been one of the reasons it didn't make it into the VE, its a lot easier to justify its cost once they've made some money back on their investment. They also like to hold things back for facelifts etc. Just like they manage to find around 10kW in their motors at every facelift. Another thing to consider is the fact the car was signed off about 4 years(or maybe more I can't remember) before it was released - a time when fuel economy bullsh1t was an issue!
True, The Alfa V6 only shares the block and pistons with the Holden Version, Alfa Romeo fit their own cylinder heads and manifolds which are then 'tuned' to give them that rorty note.

It won't be cheap,Cost me 5 and a half grand to bring ours over from Perth.
Then you pay GST on top of that in NZ plus 400 for maf and then another 400 for NZ cert.
Go the the australian muscle car sales site and there's a info sheet at the bottom for importing a car into NZ.
If you car has a road worthy cert over there it helps alot.
Also you need proof that you own it 100%.
If you still have some hassles pm me and I will send you the paperwork.
Cheers Marty
ps the 6 year bit is for dealers and anything that does not meet the frontal regs
The life of a VL is a troubled one..
Sorted my alternator out this weekend (but I had left my keys at someones house so I couldn't test it until a few hours ago) and its charging properly and everything now.. but now it has a really bad miss! Sounds like it's only firing on 5 cylinders I'm hoping it's just a spark plug or a lead, but I cant do much about them until next weekend.
What do you guys think it could be? I don't think it's the CAS cause the tacho isn't having a fit.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Got a multimeter? If so, chuck it onto the ohm setting (sort of looks like a horseshoe), attach the probes to either end of the lead and write down the reading you get. This will give you a the resistance for each lead. Do this for all the leads. All the readings should be within 10% of each other, any more and it can point to a damaged lead, which can cause a miss.

Don't have one at home, have one at work, but I'm not gonna drive it to work like it is.. maybe I'll take it home, or swap all the leads from my 2L, was just to dark to look at doing it tonight.

Yeah I'm sure I heard something about Melbourne.. I thought 'WTF!'. I'm not someone who thinks they're all of a sudden better because someone from NZ has done well at something, but the way Australia has a habit of doing that is getting a bit old!
And I wish I could get that kind of money for driving..
it was because Scot wa born in oz, but both his parents were kwis but he was brought back to his rightful place to grow up , so the ozzies are prob using that to claim him!!!! they need to go n shagg some more sheep or hug a stingray..
