21-04-12, 16:19 GMT+10#23 I have run a 10.2 at 139 with my r33 gearbox, never had 1 box issue and i was running redline oil...
But did break 3 tailshafts but 2 were just standard two piece shafts and the one piece shaft was made out of cheese by hardy spicer for me..
1.52 60ft
All up had run nearly 30 launches down the 1/8 and 1/4 mile.
Car had 35/40 turbo on 24-25psi on pulp with octane booster. Made 450kw at hubs on a hub dyno and 385rwkw on the mainline rollers

In the process ive done numerous damage....
I blew 2 R33 Box's and colapsed the rear end and bent tailshafts before i got a fully built PAR gearset gearbox made by Mr Transmissions. (whos in my sig) So far the box has seen about 40 passes and dozens of powerskids. Its still going strong. Ive been hassled and criticised for sticking with a manual box. But IMO if i went Auto id sell up and move on.
Its a straight cut box with syncro's. Best pass so far is a 10.6@135mph. Im still chasing a lower number before it gets gas. My intentions to run a 9 second pass then retire back to the circuit.

21-04-12, 16:39 GMT+10#25 Getrag Toyota 6spd runs 8s in a heavy ass supra
That's a std unopened box!
Gotta love how Toyota over engineer everything
How hard would it be to convert 1 of them to fit an rb?
Although there not cheap!
3500 just for the box

Did you have like adjustable upper trailing arms setup when you were destroying tail-shafts?

I think the 6 speed getrag similar box to the R34 6 speed & M3 Boxes as well
Good bit of gear thats for sure.

lol, i have been telling people that for yrs, **** a dogbox POS, just make a bellhousing and buy a supra box, they never break gears, its pointelss to fit dog gears to them..its not the weak link
the case warps first if i remember correctly and they where talking about bracing it..
and $3500 is **** all compared to a dogbox..and the maintenence..lol

No they are not..r34 boxes are made of glass..lol

21-04-12, 21:17 GMT+10#29 All rb boxs are glass. Stock gears you strip, if you don't strip gears you break selector forks, you buy billet selectee you strip gears.. I just kept a spare 25 box and once I'd broken a few normally had enough spares to build a good box . Good part of the reason I sold the car was because of broken gearboxes causing lack of motivation...
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yea i did have adjustable's.
supra box is the go.
I looked in to it but the price of buying the box and another decent clutch/shaft sent me down the auto path, ohh and the Andra bell housing requirement's

22-04-12, 01:29 GMT+10#31 Hmmm.......
I have had this discussion with a customer.........
Google a drag calc....supra...... with a manual....... and see what actually needs to happen to run an 8. Its not pretty. Its impressive but not pretty.
We haven never... and I mean never broken a CA18 gearbox...... not our drift cars, not our drag cars... ever broken a box. They have done several seasons drifting and massive wheel stands and street runs and never broken a box. Should we all now put CA boxs in supras? I think not.
Everyone is more than happy to tell you about the success they have with a certain product..... do they tell you the 19 failures they suffered until it all worked? I'd think not.
I busted 3 GTR box's in 2 weeks. Got one cryo treated and changed my driving style and haven't done one since,,,,,, I bet its not the treating that saved my box

22-04-12, 10:57 GMT+10#32 Those Ca and sr boxes more commonly break from axle tramp from what i have seen..
lol at driving style, i never broke a stock toyota K-40 motor gearbox in my turbo 5k in 10yrs from 140 to 150rwkw, never broke a ke10 axle either in 10yrs until i didn't put the tyres down to 10psi one night and it tramped hard ONCE (well tramped hard from 60km to 160km )and snapped both axles..lol
My brothers 11 sec gemini has never busted a box either, but i have mates that will blow up anything with a drive down to the shop they are that rough and when they have driven my cars i have waited for the gearlevel to snap in half and the clutch pedal to get pushed through the firewall..haha
But with vl's, the uni joints are the weak point, i have seen corrans aftermath, theres a bigger uni assembly you can use from the borg warners in falcon XR/Xt's, but in all reality..you need a 9 inch to go super fast in a manual vl or
TRY to get some billet stuff made up..going fast constistently with a manual vl is a rich mans sport..I'll stick to the auto's..
cheers

I put this in another thread, but this is what the major supra manual players use
http://magnusmotorsports.com/product...ontrol-device/ (http://magnusmotorsports.com/products/clutch-products-services/launch-control-device/)
or build your own

22-04-12, 19:04 GMT+10#33 Why would u put a box that's suited to a 4cyl behind a 6cyl?
The v160/161 boxes are damn near bulletproof!
Many an 8sec pass has been run on them
But it's extremely difficult! Lightening fast changes, extremely good launching, 1000+rwhp, good suspension ect
There's a lot more to it than just the box!

22-04-12, 19:22 GMT+10#34 I'm sure this has been talked about before, but what is the largest turbo you could run on a manual RB30 without it falling off the surge line between shifts? Something around an 85-90mm turbine wheel? 76-80 compressor inducer?

22-04-12, 19:45 GMT+10#35 That's a good question
I'd have a guess and say prob a 4294?
I know with a 2j it seems to be an 8280

When you say 4294, are you talking about the Garrett small GT42?
If so, i think you could go at least GT4202, if not bigger. Im keen to give a PT7685 from precision a go, I just want to see if Mark at Billet turbos can make one in the same size, before i order it from the states.

23-04-12, 03:30 GMT+10#38 A lot of it could be the driver too, I watched Anthony run a flat 10.0 twice back to back in a budget customers car with factory manifolds, 3540 and 5 speed. Didn't have a cage so afaik it never went back again

23-04-12, 08:17 GMT+10#39 Yeah mark could build that I'd say
Now that he does his own billet comp wheels

23-04-12, 09:18 GMT+10#40 Talking about turbo billet wheels we did some dyno testing on sat with some new borgwarner turbos vs garret both cars put on 30 to 40 hp on the same boost with the borgy it was a gt42 vs same size in a borgwarner and gt47 and same size in borgwarner i was amazed there new billet wheels look flash too and the borgwarners wernt even rollerbearing and the garrets where just something interesting
