06-03-12, 08:25 GMT+10#21 Early turbo cars (and Calais and Berlina) had Hitachi alternators, whereas the povvo pack models got a smaller/cheaper Bosch unit. Later on they all had Bosch though.
The starter you have there is a turbo one. 23300B4900 is for the turbo, 23300B4800 is for the n/a's.

06-03-12, 09:05 GMT+10#22 If its a turbo manual starter its for a 10" flywheel. word is you need too cut some of the MF5s bellhousing to make a 10" flywheel fit in?
Also ****s me how you guys are running MF5s with turbos.. people smash them easy as in NAs.

Yeah well if its the original Turbo starter it has to be the original flywheel as well.
But the Box I have is definantly an MF5 - They must've ground out a bit of the bellhousing.

On my engine harness the knock (detonation) Sensor plug is missing. It looks to have been pulled off the wire. So I have to try to get another one.
You can the buy the hole thing for $350 pfft what a joke LOL.

28-03-12, 11:43 GMT+10#28 Re: gearbox/flywheel; measure your flywheel's diameter. 9.5" for NA, 10" for turbo. An NA flywheel is more desirable, because it is the same as the Skyline clutch, meaning you have way more options for upgrades. MX7s are difficult to rebuild as parts are hard to come by. A reasonable R33 box will set you back ~$1500, low kms will naturally cost more. They are rated to something stupid like 900hp.

28-03-12, 20:29 GMT+10#29 I recently got an MX7 gearbox, flywheel, etc thanks to forum member, InsaneVL.
Have since had the engine and gearbox rebuilt, just to stock specs though.
Have also tested the original Turbo ECU, that was just thrown on the backseat. On another VL and it works. So I dont know why they were running it on an N/A ECU
So yeah, thats about the only stumbling block at the moment - The missing knock sensor plug off the harness.
