after viewing the video it's pretty obvious that people around Lapa have had enough of cars lapping and congregating there at night and the associated car and stereo noise and issues so they've complained to the police cops have responded to try to discourage it and it's easy pickings for them

You obviously havent been on the other side of the fence have you? And yes, there are idiots that ruin it for all the car enthusiasts that just want to go for a drive and relax with their mates, but can't the cops actually get the "hoons" instead of the innocent guys who are easier targets.

^^?????????? I've been a car enthusiast for years and never had issues with police while driving any of my cars there's lots more in exactly the same situation too, maybe people need to look at whether what they are doing and the way they are doing it is 'smart' in all respects and also whether it impacts negatively on others which is the real test

It used to go off with the best cars ive ever seen. People did ruin it with stupidity.

At the end of the day there was alot of cars there that were to loud ect not meeting EPA compliance. I can't talk myself as my car is unroadworthy but If I got pulled over I would cop it sweet and not have a teary about it. The annoying part is how they can label any of those people hoons when there was proof that any of them had driven in a "hoon" manner on public roads (except for the knob who admitted doing burnouts). Why dont there do a segment on how many cars are on the road with loose steering racks, split bushes ect that are run into the ground and unsafe on the roads. Nobody cares about all the bombs on the road that are a risk to the drivers, their children who have no choice in the matter or other drivers on the road.

ACA have not done there homework at all on this one. They happened to pick Falcon GT's great Australian icons as the main "Hoon" cars for the story....wrong they are obviously a weekend car that anyone can appreciate and the owner has spent alot of time and money to achieve that standard which is nothing less then show standard. I can understand if the cars that were getting defected were a couple of pulsars that had there 4 inch exhausts dragging along the ground. I know there was a prelude and evo or as ACA call it a "Subaru" but these cars were not a great example ethier. What i couldnt stand was the journalist talking to the car owners the poor girl did not have a clue and made a meal of everything she said. Stick to the diet storys that are oh so interesting and lay off the car scene its only been covered about 30 times. Its the same old story the minority ruins it for the majority and ACA picks up on this....they give air time to the minority and what really annoys me is the stories covered are so bias, yes they allowed the drivers to vent there spleen but just after they got defected? of course there going to be swearing and carrying on abit and to the wider community it drives that message home that yes these guys are hoons look at how they present themselves on T.V there using foul language and abusing police. What ACA should do is allow for a spokesmen from the car community...someone who is prominent to argue our side of the fence.....or better still come to some of the car shows and festivals and see how many families have a great time and how "hoon" cars as they put it can produce some great social events.

You tend to forget that it was the Falcon GTHOs that were one of the primary reason of the "Supercar Scare" of the early 70s which killed off the likes of the Phase 4, LJ V8 XU-1 and Force 7. So back in the day they were considered "dangerous and unfit" for the public roads by public opinion. IF that bloke had left the shaker scoop on and kept "factory specs" he wouldn't have gotten any grief. And you're right, the people they interviewed aren't representative of the greater "muscle car" owner population. It's like saying Sam Newman interviews "typical football loving" Aussies for his Street Talk segment. Why the hell they interviewed owners who probably wouldn't support Australia in a football match against their ethno-origin country is beyond me.

I think sometimes when discussing things like this you need to think of other peoples points of view.. instead of taking the 'car enthusiast' standpoint. If a POS VN V6 has bald tyres, neons, rear muffler cutoff and is caught acting in an unsafe manner (ie, burnouts, speeding, whatever..) and then you have a for this purpose, a falcon GT with fat rear tyres, filter out the hood and a loud exhaust note.. the public is NOT discriminating between the two. The police officer was right, you can modify your car... that's not the issue, the issue is that it must be done legally, and if needed an engineers certificate must be gathered. As for driving styles.. there is never going to be an excuse for mucking around on the road in the eyes of the law. As for picking on nice cars.. this refers back to my first point, the general public and the police don't differentiate between a piece of sh1t car and a restored and modified classic.. only the people that drive them do.

The bloke that got defected for the air filter out of the bonnet i must say is harsh because there are alot of things on cars these days that if they hit a pedestrian it can cause serious injury such as ladders on roof racks driving lights etc... did anyone see the one on today tonight aswell im pretty sure it was on the same night about hoons funny that both shows same night having a story about hoons.. Not that i condone hoon behaviour but im sure most of us have done some sort of illegal activity whilst driving.. weather it be drags burnouts etc What i cant understand is that there out to make it sound so bad in terms of hoons are a sole responsible for road deaths. How about the hundreds of people who go drink driving or on drugs behind the wheel etc etc... it doesnt get the same airtime on these opinion shows. Anyway to make it easy on yourself just get an engineer to sign of your modifications then u wont have any hassles defect wise

What about the idiots causing higher insurance costs, and most of us are in the 18-25 age category but don't have any driving claim/offense at all. It's the idiot hoons causing this mess, they need to be caught and punished. Can't wait till I'm 25! Not long to go.

LOL engineers certificates mean nothing ive get defected with them... The cops want you to get engineers because when they defect you, it costs twice as much and is twice as hard to get the defects cleared....... And plus they keep changing the rules and regulations on modified cars... mods that were legal a few years ago are now illegal... example.. just last year you where allowed to increase your rim size by 2 inches this year its 1 inch in NSW. So all these innocent people that spent thoudands on wheels thinking it was legal are now hoons breaking the law????????

This is so true , now there's no engineers certificates approval in NSW , i tryed getting mine legit and now my car sits there untill new approval ... so at the end of the day the police know and just keep targeting us i just hope police realise who the hoons and go catch criminals ...

In all honesty I havn't really read much of the replies in this thread so it may have already been covered. We all know it's a ratings game and not necessarily a quality game. Anything to get people talking... and look at the bee's hive they've poked in terms of online forum threads relating to this segment. It has worked. I think their main point was that every time they do a hoon story they get heaps of people writing in saying 'were car enthusiasts not hoons', so they went out and found some 'car enthusiasts' and that's what they even called themselves. Yes they found the bottom of the barrel for these guys but it helped their show none the less. Then at the end they stick it right up everyone who has written in complaining saying that this is what car enthusiasts are like because theyve even admitted that's what they are! Come on, 117dB and a huge filter out the bonnet? You can't really complain about getting done. That's around 30 times over the noise limit. Even in that situation if you built your car to be legal you probably would have been picked up for something as they went over them but if the cars looked presentable, were close to legal noise wise and didn't have engine components sticking out of the bonnet they probably wouldn't have been pulled up in the first place. ACA 1, Car Enthusiasts 0.

we'll see another thread just like this in 6 or 12 months time when ACA do another 'story' again, don't watch something that's likely to get your blood pressure up unless it's a hot chick
