23-10-11, 11:34 GMT+10#22 side note noone has mentioned yet -
you cannot make your vl rb30 sound like a r32/33/34 skyline.
these skylines run twin cam heads so the burble just won't be there.
the general rule is 2.5" with extractors or 2 1/4" without. I ran 2 1/4 with extractors and backed up with a highflow air filter. this is what ui'd recommend. it gave a 39*,***km engine a new life and a nice note that wasn't droney. I used the standard Cat converter.
From my experience 2.5 is too big. it's droney and sucks the low end power from an n/a. the 2 1/4 retains the power and the note is nice and loud without rattling the hell out of the car and giving you a headache.
3" is ridiculous. it actually sucked power from my otherwise standard vl turbo so on an n/a it would be terrible.

in summary -0 the 2 1/4 is loud when you smash the accelerator but will drive at a reasonable purr through a booze bus / through residential streets etc. the 2.5 will drone everywhere and be loud when you stomp it but the car will become noticably laggy without a few more engine mods than extractors and a filter.

25-10-11, 18:57 GMT+10#26 My cousin had a 2 1/4 on his turbo, it sounded like it had a screamer at high RPM, completely silent at idle
