Bin it, it sounds like a heap of junk Either that or buy a cheap daily and start the full rebuild, which in the end will cost you in excess of $50k, then you'll probably sell it for $15k because you don't drive it, but it'll be well worth the experience

Cheap daily is what you need bro I got a starlet for $500 of a mates GF with 8months REGO!!!!!!! Thing just wont die, $40 gets you $450km. I would never have completed my VL if it wasnt for the Starlet.

I have owned mine for 15 years, gone thru alot built it from a shell into the top 10 commodores in the year 2000.. It's been impounded and also took my wife to our wedding, then became the first Vl in NSW to run a 8 second pass... Then got tubbed and became the first Eva vlt to run a 7 second pass, I have felt the same as you the passed year but you get over it , like I feel now .. Keep on it.. Park it until your keen again.. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeh bro dont sell up. my projects been off the road for 5 years an its only JUST recently been painted. in that time ive smoothed the whole shell and everything. Over this period ive had months where ive totally got the sh!ts with it an left it an havent even looked at it. But u just work through that an try and look to the end. Its been so long that i no longer see it as a car i can potentially drive, just a project. So when it is done it will be an unbelieveable feeling for me. Ive also had daily vls in between it, and trust me, when u sell up and dont own one for a while, when u see someone drive past in a nice one, u will get the sh!ts u sold it. Keep it mate.

By built up I ment fully turbo'd it. A8 motor with a gt35/40. Screamer setup ect. Everything that could be replaced was. Then that motor sh it, itself. So back with the na banger. And now that sounds like it's on it's way out haha The shell itself is in good nick besides the lid and nose cone. And it's a real s2 Calais witch are hard to get in this colour

No offence but these comments are from guys that have sold their VL's long ago and moved on to other cars and are still trawling through a forum dedicated to VL's, so there is something there, in the back of their mind still drawing them to the VL otherwise they would be long gone. Honestly, there is a love/hate relationship with VL's thats why people have/love them, seriously if it is not a financial/living expense, then keep it, get a daily to be reliable and enjoy it for what it is. When my car is not working I curse the hell out of it, and want to buy something newer, but when it's repaired and i'm just cruising around town in it, there's nothing better in my mind. I too have wanted to sell mine and have been told i'll regret it, and yes I would have if I did at the time.

Owning, building and maintaining a VL Turbo is a true labour of love. I lost my licence for a long time and since the VL Calais has gone into the garage for some major suspension, steering and engine work. Building it is my driving force in life so when im back on the road ill be tearing down the free way in a built not baught VL Calais Turbo.

I haven't say lost interest in the 3 years I have been slowly putting money into my car, but I swear I like working on it more than I really care about driving it.. If thats weird than shoot me but I like to get my hands dirty and always have something to keep me interested, its going to be fun to drive but it will never be finished. ---------- Post added 26-09-11 at 18:13 ---------- I suggest anybody doing a long term VL build, when you goto buy some parts for your project save for the best you desire bit possible.. no matter if its $400 compared to $800 if you spend the $1000 straight up you wont do the job twice because you are unhappy. But you will be twice as broke haha.

My first car was a maroon over grey VL berlina, bought it off an old man! Within 2 years I lowered it, put wheels on it, turboed it, did a bit of the interior on it... owning it and working on it gave me soo much happiness.... And then it got stolen! I was shattered! I started selling all the parts I had thinking that I'd never see her again! The next morning wen I woke up and ran to the garage to see she wasn't there I cried! Was the first time I cried over a car! I had put soo many hours of work and money into her! But it wasn't the money that made me upset! It was all the good times that I had lost! (including losing my virginity in it! Lol). anyway!* But to my surprise it showed up 3 days later! Stripped, battered and on bricks!! It was like being punch in the gut only worse! Over time she came bak together! Wheels, turboed and all again! 3 years later while driving her I got t-boned by some douche that ran a red light! Written off! I stripped her and painfully sent her to the scrap yard! 3 months later I bought what I still own now! A candy red VLCT! I've also spent thousands on this one too and I've had an accident that has caused me to save for a complete respray! I've been defected as many as 6 times in 5 months and i spent the $$$ to get her engineered. I have more problems in this VL than the last. but everytime she does run right I forget about all the problems because nothing makes me happier wen I'm boosting by! Stolen thread:*http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=83468 My new VL:*http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=153190 My opinion, Don't sell! Despite the dramas we have there is no other car that I can have more fun in!! Feels really good boosting past cars that are worth over $40k and are less than a year old!! * Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yes I still have a love for VL's and I like to think I'll own another one day, but like I've said before VL's are like supermodels, they're good to look at and thrash every once in a while, but when you have to live with them day in day out they do your head in I would never turn someone off doing a full VL build up once in their life as it's well worth the experience, but at the end of it it's highly likely you'll be fed up with it and you'll move on
