16-08-11, 23:37 GMT+10#21 4 strokes will never have the fun factor of a 2 strokes powercurve. 2 strokes also sound better and smell awesome.
Even ricky carmichael prefers 2 strokes over 4 strokes

17-08-11, 20:18 GMT+10#22 I had never ridden a 4 stroke, until just recently rode a ktm450 & a crf450 in the one weekend, I had put about 100 hours on the yz250 previously loving it, the 4 strokes had that throw me off the seat up high in the gears on 2nd & 3rd but otherwise they are alot less involved, I like the high end power of the 4 stroke and they seem a bit better at higher speeds with the extra weight.
I put a 52 tooth sproket on the rear of the yz250 its an animal to keep on the ground now as I ride a heap of woods stuff it tractors so much better down low, sacrificed a bit of top end but I never used it anyway.
Was cool to go for a blat on both 4 strokes but overall I would blip the throttle going into muddy corners and not be able to control the thing as it was so doughy to get roosting.
Prefer the instant snap of the 2 stroke no worries. Four stroke if you are retired.

19-08-11, 18:44 GMT+10#23 It comes down to every ones own opinion. Like I said at the start I race motocross four 5 years I love two strokes that all I have raced. I have ride. Four strokes a few times and I think they are **** compared to my bike when it comes down to it it's not the bike it is the rider. And what he likes

19-08-11, 20:21 GMT+10#25 only decent 4 strokes ive ridden was a mates injected kx450f and another mates KTM450 (not sure exactly what model but it was pretty awesome for a 4 banger), i was impressed by both of them but ive riden & owned numerous 4 strokes including crf450's yzf450's etc and they didnt interest me at all.
2 stroke ftw
best bikes ive owned were both 2 strokes, ktm 300 & husqvarna wr250, both had more balls than most of the 450s ive ridden.

26-08-11, 12:45 GMT+10#38 Then you have to pay the bullsh!t prices on spare parts etc.
spare parts for JAP bikes is crap to but no were near as bad as KTM etc.

26-08-11, 13:40 GMT+10#39 I buy all my parts off shops in usa. Witch is less then half price they charge at the bike shops. Ebay is very good buy heaps off their for my bike ! it depends on the person if they have the extra money to spend on a ktm and want to race serious or just have some fun. it worth the couple extra grand for better quality. And what do you mean about spare parts if you ride a four stroke its ten more expensive. A lot more to keep it running compared to a two stroke

26-08-11, 18:20 GMT+10#40 care to tell me why?
i havnt had a problem with mine at all.
my brothers 2009 kx450f has done 2 race sessions +ALOT of bush and doesnt need anything and never has.
a mates 2008 kx450f, been flogged since new, never needed anything..
in saying never needed anything i mean, valves have never needed doing (no shimming, nothing) in any of them, no rebuilds, done alot of hours. just service and ride them! now tell me why those 4 strokes are more expensive to keep running?
im not playing your little 2 stroke vs 4 stroke game, i was just stating that genuine parts are over priced then KTM's even worse. regardless if its 2 or 4 stroke.
