Garrett are made in China lol. I think you will find that most manufacturing takes place in China.

well no one here exactly knows what turbo you will be buying as most reselers will sell 5 diffrent gt42r all the time. i think what you are being told here is its a hit and miss by that i mean you could buy it and have great results but i mighyt buy one from the same place same part number same month and it might be diffrent core etc you get my drift andf with people telling you about garret or proboost is they are exactly the same week in week out like grants are 899 in australia with warranty and guarantee proven performance

Email From Proboost about the "GT42" hi Brett the gt42 we sell has a 76mm comp wheel in a a/r60 front cover , rear housing is a 1.05 6 bolt rear flange and foot print is gt42 which is inbetween t4 foot , i have had the bolt pattern milled to suit t4 foot print manifold ,twin pulse entry, and we had them made oil only, these are completley interchangable with garrett housing we have up graded them to a 360deg thrust plate to stop and thrust plate problems due to the larger comp wheel we took over 1 yr to make as i send sample to my supplier to make from the original garrett one i hade done by gcg turbos price for the turbocharger is $950 withn the lager comp wheel and upgraded thrust plate

Yer I know. I was just pointing out the fact that it's made in China has little to do with the quality. It's the quality control of each factory as Mick pointed out.

ill tell you guys what opened my eys up at china is this. I went there on a buying trip for my work at the time and we looked around at a few factories and even the ****test factory there, makes australian factories in similar business look like back yard jobs. as far as how clean and how well organised they are. now we were looking at boom lifts, and went to one of our suppliers,Looking at there diffrent wares. And we were greated by a manager who spoke english now he took us to the show room were there were 5 of the same machines lined up next to each other and 5 diffrent prices i asked why diffrent prices he said this to us number one **** quality, number 5 top excelent quality, and number 3 no so **** but not so excelent,he went on to say give me what you wont to pay and ill give you a machine that suits your budget ? food for thought

Also what way i see it, the quality of CNCs now days, its hard to make a bad part. Just bad design or poor copying with no back up research and **** steels

So do the factories in China use the same casting and balancing procedures that Garrett uses for their copies? Also do they use the same grade of steel in their casting,CNC machining? I was also under the impression that with these turbo's it is merely "hit and miss" in terms of luck in buying a good one that's been assembled and balanced properly. Having said that I think that the turbo's that Grant sells are the quality ones that have been properly built and balanced. I wonder if he puts a Garrett seal-kit through it??

Its all about quality control.. find a Chinese manufacturing plant with a white guy handling product quality control and your on a winner.

In abit of bother atm. Grant is selling the GT42 turbo But I can't decide which one to buy. Either the GT42 or T04z. Specs on both GT42 60a/r comp cover & 76mm front wheel To4z 70a/r comp cover & 65mm front wheel. Which is better??

depends what you want to do, GT42's have a large rear housing so if you want to run one on a manual and not lag to ****, you might need to get JPC to mill you a smaller rear, maybe around 0.82, as far as i know T04Z's are available with rear housings to suit manuals, and overall are more streetable. I'd go the GT42 anyway haha

In regards to the first page and the topic of chinese parts being inferior - It's not necessarily true. The problem is Australians and Americans are tight arses. If we don't want to pay for things then they'll still make it but use cheaper parts - so we get these and they break and then we bag out how poor the quality is there. As we all know most manufacturing parts are from China but they put the 'garrett' or other big name brand on it and suddenly we trust it and it's not a 'chinese' part any more.

when looking at the GT42 front housing and thinking "man its only a 0.60 AR, must be smaller" think again about how the AR or aspect ratio is directly affected by the size of the compressor wheel, so even if it "appears" smaller its actually larger in reality

The quickest way I got in contact with grant was through e-bay. ---------- Post added 23-08-11 at 21:57 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by xAsh- [View Post] when looking at the GT42 front housing and thinking "man its only a 0.60 AR, must be smaller" think again about how the AR or aspect ratio is directly affected by the size of the compressor wheel, so even if it "appears" smaller its actually larger in reality But being a smaller A/R wouldn't hamper it's ability to breath(flow)??
