01-06-11, 01:03 GMT+10#22 That's probably what they want man, payment plans that way they become almost like a bank except they don't need to lend you money to make money, instead they just take your money, just imagine 10 people get done, thats 56k alone and I've been seeing a lot of cars getting impounded lately, they're going to make some nice money from it. It would be even funnier if they start charging interest if you end up taking one of them monthly payment plans instead of dishing out 5600 cash on the spot...

If you want to speed, race, do burnouts, doughnuts and fishtails on public roads then you have everything coming to you if you get pinged by the hoon laws.
Having had a schoolmate killed in his prime from a senseless hoon related accident will get no sympathy from me.
Take it to the track.

01-06-11, 15:46 GMT+10#28 The point isn't whether or not hooning is right or wrong, the point is the punishment doesn't fit the crime. If your kid brother cousin nephew whatever, stole a Mars bar from a milk bar and was given 20 years would you say that's fair? I'm obviously taking it to the extreme but it's just to show the principle.
It really pisses me off when people say "well don't do it and you won't have a problem". That's not the point.
Btw that's not directed at you EvilPet, just speaking in general.

01-06-11, 16:42 GMT+10#29 Race cars only soon, its not worth the hassle. the general public is a blinded bunch of ****wits that can't think for themselves. Politicians will continue to pander to this.. Unless someone can come up with a way to bash some reality into people it aint going to change.
I've made the decision to have a non-street only car. Though I can afford to. A lot of people won't. It will really kill a large industry, will quite a lot of money spent.

Its a real worry some of the comments here....I guess they all think it will never happen to them as they are good drivers
Maybe I am just getting old LOL...oh bugger... I am
I should add that in my younger days I was no angel so I guess I am like a reformed smoker...a pain in the ass....
If these laws were around back then I would have not taken the risk....fines never really bothered me...but losing my car certainly would have...
Dazz

02-06-11, 19:03 GMT+10#31 These laws are getting beyond a joke. The victorian Government is just trying to reduce the road toll and more than half of deaths on our roads are alcohol and drug related not drivers doing illegal burnouts and drags.
Why dont they do something about drink driving and driving under the influence of drugs. Maybe lower the alcohol level or something, tougher penalties.
Mind you I dont think its right to skate down every street in victoria but all im trying to say is that people who like their cars and are proud in what they drive are becoming the victims.
WHY DOESNT THE GOVERNMENT LISTEN TO US CAR ENTHUSIESTS AND BUILD OR CREATE A TRACK TO DO WHATEVER WE WANT. AT LEAST GIVE THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DO BURNOUTS AND DRAGS THE OPTION.

Good call mate, give the ''hoons'' somewhere to enjoy their vehicles in a safe (supervised?) and affordable manner and it will take them off the streets.
Not everyone wants to drive over to the other side of town in peak hour traffic to race at Calder.
The road is a dangerous enough place without hoons. Despite how carefully I drive, I am often having to avoid idiots drifting lanes while talking and texting on their phones, eating, changing CD's, etc. As for drink drivers, it is pretty hard to accidently drink drive, that is just plain risk taking.
They should just build a skid pan with a 'safety warning' like your local skate park. Let us go in there and shred our tires, if the cops like they can hang out on the weekend and check our treads before we leave.
It seems counter productive to increase the hoon law penalties while cars manufactured and sold in Australia under ADR reg's are faster than ever before. Its all politics at the end of the day.

04-06-11, 08:52 GMT+10#33 Drink driving limit should be 0.00BAC.
Drink + Drug drivers should be impounded for endangering life (higher end drink drivers)
Licenses should be hard to get.
Training and education should be a part of getting a license. (Defensive courses, not mum and dad showing you how to pass the test with a 3 point turn.)
There needs to be a track out East.
If there's a place to do it legally there can be no excuses.

04-06-11, 11:17 GMT+10#34 Perfectly spoken ^^
Realistically, at the end of the day though, it's not going to make any difference if they were to open a skid pan or a track. The people doing the stupid stuff now are still going to be doing the stupid stuff then, regardless of track access etc...
I think if they were to open such a venue then the existing laws would need to be tightened even further to ensure the venue is put to good and proper use. I think this would need to be to the extent that if you're caught doing burnouts/high speed racing etc on the street, then your car is confiscated and sold at state auction...
It's the only way something like this would work for it's intended purpose - to get this sort of behaviour off the streets.

04-06-11, 11:23 GMT+10#35 The only thing is that it's up to 1 persons discretion and you could lose $50,000 worth of car. The current system is working, there's a 2% repeat offence rate after being caught once already... to me that says its working.
I wonder what the drink driving / driving unlicensed repeat offence rate is.
It's foolish to think that you'll ever have zero road deaths or zero drag racing / burnouts happening - people want to do it but have no place to do it so they take it to the street. There are better options than to crush someones car - honestly it's only a 'revenge' act where the community feels they've gotten one back on that bad arsed street racer - I can't see how it will 'rehabilitate' or solve the issue in the first place.
Unfortunately our political system is based on popularity and not necessarily problem solving.

04-06-11, 12:36 GMT+10#36 Last sentence hits the nail on the head!
It's more than foolish to think that the road toll can be reduced to nothing yet the government continues to pour millions of taxpayer dollars into road safety campaigns each and every year. Don't get me wrong, it's a necessity to do so, however as of the last couple of years (well, since Bracksy really) the focus has shifted too far toward the 'hooning' end of the scale. Check out the TAC figures and statistics and it's easy to see that a large majority of road accidents occur in rural areas and the majority of these are due to fatigue and driver inexperience.
At the end of the day, these 'hoon' laws won't affect me so I'm not fussed about them. The problem is that the media beatup has continued to push the problem onto those of us who enjoy our cars for what they are and are then hassled as a result of the way they look/sound etc...
Lastly, I'm assuming it's not just myself who is getting sick of people claiming to be 'enthusiasts' and crying bloody murder when they are pinged for something when half the time, those people are driving a beat up VN V6 with stockies on the back and posting photos across facebook/websites of them lighting it up on public roads...

05-06-11, 16:16 GMT+10#37 As GMHVN and PROGMH have said it's all so true that it's just revenue raising, and a way to retaliate against car enthusiasts. I do agree to an extent on the governments decisions to do so but the penalties are far the great for the actions. I'm nit at all condoning the little heroes in their spooled vr v6s doing skids everywhere cause they're making it harder for all off us.
Bein a p plater is like a big neon sign for the cops to say let get them and even if your not doing anything wrong, they get you because your cars a lil too low( yea it's still breaking the law but with the fair restrictions in place for what wr can drive we can't do anything but make our cars look good) also as someone previously stated, we can noe buy a 220or more kw v6 holden or even a Toyota if we can afford it and still be within the laws.
Also for the idea of opening up some venue for ppl to go and use there cars weather your a hoon or not, look at wat happened at Motovate Melbourne. Nothing happened after that and there was easy over 500 drag racers there and over 1000 car enthusiasts wanting something built, and how many of us on this one forum want something built?let alone other forums out there. If we all stuck together and made a class action something could get done but the government can't see how it will help, if Calder had a bit of money spent to make it ANDRA spec the ammount of money the government gets back from one big event, from ppl needing accomodation to tourisam of ppl coming to watch, they get the money spent to make it all bake plus profit....

05-06-11, 19:35 GMT+10#39 yeah so tru man its bull**** but in the same token i can kinda see where they'r commin from but only for somethings, i just dont see how they can say that hoons cause the most deathes on our roads when its real things like the w*nkers who drink drive, or who dont hav a licence... if they ever get caught (RBT or anything other then an accident) they only get fines and demerits maybe looses their licence... some dont even have one to loose so they just keep offending.
honestly what about all the old decrepid blind drivers out there like my own grandad. his cars had more hits then elvis! and they get to keep their licene when they cant even see 2mtrs in front! and drive 60 on the hwy's! and all the f**king imports that come hear on a student visa, they are aloud to drive and dont hava to sit the test! nor do they have insurance!
and what happens when im riding my pushie! and i pop a manual dwn the st! they'l proly still **** me for riding too cool! lol

I'll take 2..
I got done last year for "driver not have proper control of vehicle" for doing a u-turn in the wet and the rear end came loose.. i corrected it and continued to drive at a normal speed up to the speed limit when they flashed their lights coming from the opposite direction and did a u-turn to pull me over. They then looked over the whole car then asked me to pop the bonnet and looked over the engine looking dissapointed that it was still factory standard. after that one officer tapped my streering wheel telling me it was illegal. when i said it is adr approved he shut up. I got a $240 fine but lost no points yet apparently i was "hooning" so why the no loss of points and just a fine? also why no defect for the low tread on the rear tyres or extra low ride height? I think their intent was obvious.. to make money. I elected a court hearing and still havent recieved a notice. Im sick of their ****.
---------- Post added 06-06-11 at 00:08 ----------
Another thing im worried about is those idiots that do stupid **** and then end up having their car crushed to have an example made out of them.. I dont think anyone would like to see an immaculate genuine vl calais turbo manual (or any car with historical/vintage/cultural significance) crushed just because some ****head could afford to buy one then do a burnout in it. Fair enough if they keep repeat offending confiscate or sell the car but as for crushing i couldnt be more against it. there is no benefit what so ever it sickens me.
