your bottom end already couldn't hold the power that the to4z is capable of producing... so a gT42 will be laggier.. and you'll be even further away from the potential of the turbo being efficient. I recon with the size of the TO4Z it would be much more efficient at the boost levels your running and make more power than the GT42 at the equivalent boost level. I had the same problem when I went from GT35 TO GT42 - I personally wouldnt do it again.

What he said^^^ You're t04z should sh1t in 600hp with the right rear on it, a gt42 is generally a 1000hp turbo. I can't for the life of me understand why everyone in the scene makes the jump from a 35/40 to 42... Keep the t04z and max it out before u upgrade.

How much did you pay for the 42?

to get the full power advantage from the t04z i would need to port the head and have bigger valves, then a good exhaust manifold then an even better plenum, then how much more boost would i need to run and staying on pump fuel, the cost is cheaper to put the 42 and see how it goes , if it doest work ill put the t04z back on

is the proboost T04Z a reliable product, or a low grade chinese product?

It's going to amplify your current restrictions. A ported head, bigger valves and such aren't really your restriction with a T04Z, as a decent cam setup, low comp and plenty of fuel providing you have a decent intercooler should make 500rwhp no probs at all. Your problem imo will come from your bottom end not handling over 420ish rwkw. Yes you would make the power easier with non pump fuel, and a ported head.

In regards to chinese turbos.. you just need to find the right manufacturer and specify your own quality tolerances. Proboost has it sorted, hence why his turbos are lasting. Garrett are made in China now etc etc

You should take a look at where or who you are getting your info from. 18psi isn't even in a t04z's effeciency range. These turbo's are built for 25-30+psi. Everything you mentioned will make the overall setup more efficient but has nothing to do with maxing out the turbo you have on there now. Wind a bit more boost into her and if it can't take anymore id be looking into the rest of the setup.

My current tune is on 24-25psi with 470hp through the auto that would be somewhere in the high 500hp at the flywheel, nothing is maxed yet the more boost or timing we put in on the dyno the more power it makes, i just dont want to keep putting boost in i would rather put the bigger turbo on and get this power on lower boost then go up from there.

Although these turbo's have big names like 'GT42' and 'GT45' they're much smaller than the Garrett equivalent.

then probably best to ask about a HP requirement, rather than a product number i'd say?

Grant from proboost is a member on here, if you have any questions message him through his website http://www.proboost.com.au/. From what i have found he is very switched on and will say it the way it is if his products will or wont be suitable for your application. I run a turbo he did for me, full 18psi boost by 3400. very very responsive. once i get auto box sorted out will get a bit better indication on power figures and will be sending it back to him for a bigger front wheel!
