Small tyre, auto, single cam....NEXT PLEASE
You've mentioned in 2 posts the car runs a small tyre..... Since when is a 29.5X11.5 considered small? Regardless its a great achievement! Dont take this post as a stab, its just a simple question...

14-03-11, 10:00 GMT+10#22 29x10.5 is the tyre size, pretty small when youre making in excess of 4 figures at those tincy tiny treads.

The US have proved this wrong over and over again but many people here have taken a little to catch on.
True!
Not just the US. Rob campisi has gone 6.21 @ 237mph with a 2 speed power glide here with plenty more to come.

What about Daniel Camilleri's VL from Victoria, doesn't that run 7s with an auto?

14-03-11, 15:52 GMT+10#26 Yeah but its a full chassis car with some serious rubber underneath it. This is essentially a street car chassis with nothing more than minitubs and no chassis mod's.
This WILL run 7's next time out.

it went 7.60s with a auto and 2 small turbos
it would be here in sydney if the deal stayed the same

People laughed at me when I told them a 3 speed would do better if not outperform a 2 speed in a VL but I don't hear those people now.The street Supras are running 7.6's in the States with a TH400, by no means a crap or unreliable box if built properly.

Yeh I have been told TH400s are a very strong box, but lots of people say they suck too much power or are too heavy behind an RB30.

I understand that they may be too heavy and they may suck power but the times speak for themselves thus far and i'm sure we will see the times come down some more in the near future.
With all things being equal, they have their disadvantages but certainly not without their advantages.

16-03-11, 06:41 GMT+10#34 Quickest automatic turbo cars on earth run a box based on a TH400.

16-03-11, 11:26 GMT+10#35 the car only lost in the vicinity of only 50rwhp from gforce to TH400....nothing an extra 2 or 3 psi wont help

16-03-11, 14:42 GMT+10#36 TH400's are an excellent Drag Box. Poor mans Lenco. If you have the power and the tyre then in theory they should beat a Glide down the 1/4. Throw the numbers into a Drag Racer program
Standard Gear sets hold 1500hp
The problems start when you want to use them primarily on the street. No engine braking requires carefull street driving so you don't damage sprags.
The quick US cars run a 2 speed version of the TH400 using approx 1.45:1 start ratio.
I like them but still have concerns when used primarily on the street. Street miles are hard on parts

Lots of light weight parts go into theses t400's , sucking too much power is an old school myth

the only supra running 7's with a th400 is paul efantis with a 7.95 about 5 years ago. titan 7.6, big daddy 7.8, jamie carter 7.6 and boost logic 7.5 run powerglides

21-03-11, 21:01 GMT+10#39 I was told the one from Titan running the 7.6 was running a TH400, I could be wrong though.
