If you wanted a VL to drift well you'd probably need to convert the rear to IRS. It has been done before but it's not a quick cheap thing to do
Coilovers (or adjustables) up front is easy, just pay the money and get them installed

Piss the wiring loom right off - I did. Chopped all wires a decent length from all the sensors, then installed a Link. Loom I got was an absolute mess, not to mention full of wires you don't need. Aftermarket computer is good future proofing too - will save ya time and money down the track if you decide to make any decent mods.

yea im labeling all the wires at the mo, im really tempted to go a/m ecu but I think that will be in a few years when I can afford to make use of it all properly If I think im gonna have to pay someone to wire this standard crap up then I'll definately do a/m ecu first up.. but hey im sure I could get 200rwkw with a piggy back safc or something for now

26-04-10, 22:02 GMT+10#33 Very tidy looking Calais - Congratulations on your purchase!
My brother is in the process of building up a 25DET wagon also. Most of his wiring is done, a few minor issues but one of his auto lecky mates is sorting it apparently.

As mentioned above, I would say it is either Pedders or Nolathane. It doesn't really matter though - the more universal part description would be a VB-VL V8 strut brace. Also known as a VB-VL rear mount strut brace. The 6 cyl version is known as a mid mount.
I can't find any info on the Nolathane site but here is the Whiteline equivalent -> http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_...number=KSB501A (http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_detail.php?part_number=KSB501A)
The only real difference is colour these days - both companys are owned by Redranger and i think they may be branding the strut braces as Whiteline now -> http://www.redranger.com.au/
Oh and NO - you can't open the fuse box with it in place, i'm not sure about the brake reservoir but i would say not from memory. I ended up braking my fuse box cover so i can lift the end and slide it out from under it, not an ideal solution but it was going to be temporary until i found/made a permanent solution.
Check you PM for more info.
Regards,
Jason

Had both on RIPV8S 20" easier to fit when you have adjustables to clear the spring platform on the struts on the front ones and get no guard rub and full lock to lock turning

28-05-10, 15:02 GMT+10#38 Bit of a update on the vl. Had the rust repaired under the rear windscreen. Had a whole new panel fitted and then sprayed so shouldn't have any more issues with rust there. Fitted a bov, boost controller and front mount intercooler. Car is now running 10psi.
