Unfortunately 300 people turn up, stand right next to the car and then the guy with no experience runs everyone over and kills them. Most people have been to them on here but most have grown out of it too and realised how dangerous it is and also how much trouble they can get in to. I remember back in the Dandy days where the police did 6 months of surveilance and then hammered everyone for everything - it's not worth it. There needs to be more events and that is why everyone is campaigning for a new track. Support easternats, support all of your local shows. Don't leave them ripping it up and giving everyone a bad image. Keep it on topic guys. Please people keep this topic inline. When I first got my licence I to was a hero, now im all grown up and seen what happens and what will happen in the future im all in for doing the right thing and still maintaining what I love doing. Yes it is all revenue raising, every day you hand over money. Some of it is going to the goverment that is just how things are. No money flowing through the system no nothing for any of us. Its just life. Its always been like this. I cant slander police, one day I want to be one of them. Image Image Image now a days its all about image, its what gets though to people. Find the the right people, the right system and have the correct backing anything is possible. You cant keep going on about whats happened/happening, we all created the problem. 10 people can do the right thing, 100,000 people cannot.

Whether the police swooped immediately or waited for more evidence is irrelevant to the argument and it's a cop out trying to shift blame.

Will, Being bashed is different to freely walking down a dark alley with the possibility of meeting unsavoury characters. I too don't agree that they should wait to gather evidence but it's trying to shift the argument that idiots get on TV doing skids in clapped out VN's making everyone look like a caveman, to 'oh the police are so bad they didnt do this this and this'

Bring back Jeff Kennet. R jackson you hav seen the problems faced first hand. Matter of intrest what did it cost? How does this compare with sandown? Its funny though, you try do things right and still get slandered. ie easternats. Ditch easternats and break it down over the year into seperate events. Idea?

it wouldn't matter if "calder" was open every night of the year for free there would still be young ****heads out showing off in there cars with their mates nothing is going to change its just the way it is im sure most of you would know there was a big rally just recently to put pressure on the vic government to fund a new drag racing facility, the thing is drag racing although it can bring in large crowds it will never bring in $$$$$ as much as the likes of the grand prix and the tennis etc with all its glitz and glamour and big media attention world wide, i very much doubt if Melbourne will ever have a new 1/4 mile drag strip cos it all comes down to the dollar bills

This drag strip, is it for big name racing and/or street cars? The problem I face is drag racing becomes very repetitive, thats why im keen on a nats style event. So you can thrash you car around a track.

you know what the problem is, calder dosnt even have the burnout pad anymore, no1 has anywhere to do anything anymore and if they do its big money to enter for which most of the crowd are tradies, students etc...with a very low income. the guy that was saying he loves the wastegates etc etc has a 350kw s15 so he wasnt just talking **** as i was there and the camera crew asked what he would like to see if they opened sumwhere up for us to do burnouts and why he loves it so much, also the way the police handled the situation was appaling, i was watching and when we came to leave once all the police swooped in the airwing lit us up, like we where getting raided like tony mokbel...then we just wanted to walk off coz we parked the car far away and the police dogs almost ripped us apart and the police where going to tear gas us because we wanted to leave which i believe is rediculous, they didnt let us go till they had our details just so they can fine us...and they say australia's a free country. now if you want to start a sh!t fight dont bother because i went there on my own responsibility, i wasnt forced to go and if something happend to me it would have been my own fault...but nothing did...so bad luck. my 2c.

Idea? its was a while ago but it was around 5gish+ just to hire the track, plus a bond incase anyone ****ed the track or anything. but its the risk that is takin to fork out that much cash to book in a date to hire then hope you get the numbers to cover the cost. we lost one the 1st time we did it, but work got around on how much fun they had with how we ran the track so the next time we did it we made a little bit of cash not much but that all went on a free BBQ an soft drinks for the day. we did one or 2 more days after that but calder put the price up an didnt want to deal with drifting, so yeah.

How hard is it to organise Gymkahna type events for clubs? Even if you had a paddock on grass that you didn't care about etc. The mentality of 'not having somewhere to do skid and a drag race, so i'm forced to do it on the road' has to go. That mentality is the problem. As has been said in this thread, people grow up and realise that driving like a tosser all the time isn't cool. If you don't have anywhere to do it, get over it. Join a club, race karts, bikes, cars, speedway, rally.

Well, I'm just saying it's the kind of thing that happens here, we've got 4 hours at least out of our night to our nearest drag strip, and there seems to be a lot of people doing local events like that. Some are on bitumen, some are on gras and dirt. No idea how it gets organised, but it does - it couldn't be too hard to get people interested in that. Agreed though, liability and insurance have killed everything. Wrapping us in cotton wool won't solve problems. But, I think the general consensus is that people need to get out and organise more and fight more for what they want. Sitting around doing nothing at all isn't going to get anything done. Never has never will.
