12-02-10, 08:40 GMT+10#24 i would have thought it would be cheaper....
also i doubt it would be great in a standard car without a tuneable ecu? eg a daily:?
also thought the octane would be higher. seems to be the same as LPG so except for the tank and conversion thing gas would be cheaper and better developed.
e10 is good stuff in a standard car but the e85 would be a bit too much?

R.E.F.U.C.K.I.N.G.S.E.A.R.C.H.
Maybe that's a bit harsh. The info is in the E85 thread if you are considering using it. Read it from the start. Most things are covered.
A)It's not the green pump at all united servo's, that's boost 95.
A)No, you can't just put it in the car without expecting trouble.
A)Yes, economy will suck b#lls.

Apologies trk-jet. As I said maybe that's a bit harsh. Apart from your question, the information has been covered. You're right, don't like it that people don't read it.

16-02-10, 00:49 GMT+10#28 I dare say there shall be a fair few more of these E85 Ethanol station's opening as i have heard in the not to distant future Holden are due to release a Ethanol version of the commodore this year sometime.

16-02-10, 01:33 GMT+10#29 Hope your right Govner. The pessimist in me says that won't happen anytime soon. The article was written in Dec 2008 and here we are in 2010 with no sign of the big boys gearing up for E85. They will fight the move in a major way. Can't have CSR eating in to their profit. Has there been any follow up to that article?

Hey scaryride, here is another article posted 9th september last year.
If it does eventuate which it sound's like it will then they will have to have E85 station's everywhere to cater for it, my guess if Holden has success with this then Ford will follow suit with an E85 Falcon or similar.

16-02-10, 22:10 GMT+10#33 I have heard the chinese are looking to purchase CSR Australia.
If they do it will be worth its weight in gold down the track especially if oil eventually dries up.
I think you will find the greedy major oil companys such as BP will be the culrpits behind E85 not coming onto the market because if it does then they will lose profits from fuel sales and companys that are making E85 or any ethanol fuels for that matter will become major players which is what they dont want to happen.

25-02-10, 00:45 GMT+10#34 I was at ATP today and I heard that one of the customers ran E85 from the Southland servo and had the computer re tuned. It picked up 6 kw at the wheels only after some fuel map tweaking. The tuner said that he always tunes cars with fuel from the Hoppers Crossing E85 servo with a minimum pickup of 30-40 kw at the wheels before he gets right into optimising the load sites for up to 60kw gain with supporting fuel mods.
That being said, I am told that the hoppers E85 is made form Sugar from CSR, which is one of the best ethanol blends due to its consistancy and higher octane rating and shelf life. The Fuel Zone at south land could be made from Corn which could have a lower spot octane and inconsistency.
My recommendation is that if you are thinking of paying the Money for E85, use the hoppers fuel. You may want to look at the zeitronix ECA to measure how much ethanol is in the blend and have a compensation map on your motec/haltec etc for it. It has a 0-5v analogue output and will ensure that your motor is compensated for a bad batch of fuel. http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/ECA/ECA.htm
More info on the sensor:
Note: A flex fuel sensor is not included with purchase of the ECA. Sensors are standard components of many flex fuel vehicles or may be purchased separately at GM dealerships (GM part number 12568450 or 12570260).

25-02-10, 10:07 GMT+10#35 Great info darkstar
Thought it was bit sus filling up at Southland. The pump has 104+ written on it.
Australian cane sugar e85 should be over the 105 corn based rating of the yanks. Hope it hasn't done damage as the car was tuned on the Hoppers fuel and is running fairly big boost.
Update.. Just went to do a quick basic check between the two blends. The Southland one does not smell as sweet as Hoppers. It seems to have more of a petrol smell to it...Lol. Fcuk.. won't be using that again.

It would be interesting to compare directly between the two. Southland brew 354@29psi. Then see what the hoppers blend makes at 29psi. It's only from a direct comparison that we would know for sure. I am going to stick with the Hoppers pump. Even if the perceived difference is a by product of getting wasted sniffing petrol
