It did cross my mind however, I'm unsure if Andra would allow a destroked tb48! I doubt it though... Either way I don't we'll see a Nissan engine under the bonnet of your Mazda. Look forward to seeing it though, always loved that shape!!

You can definately run a destroked motor, even if they have to come inspect it before it goes together to measure it. The TRD engines that Wedlock has were orginally 4 litre and were destroked to 3.5 for US class limits, same as the 1FZ's that Titan have for sale that they had built by duttweiler for their cars, they were 3.5 litre.

there not new the tb48 patrols are hugely sucessful and making big power in 4x4 offroad racing in aus and overseas.
if these could be in sports compact it could be by by 2jz.

The Nissan Patrol is a four-wheel-drive vehicle, manufactured by Nissan in Japan since 1950. The car is available in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom and the Middle East and it is in direct competition with the Toyota Land Cruiser. The Patrol is available with either two door (Short Wheel Base or SWB) or four door wagon (LWB, Long Wheel Base). The old Y60 platform is still manufactured as a military vehicle to Asian countries and the Middle East. The most popular Nissan Patrol engine is the TB48, which features a DOHC cylinder head configuration and variable valve timing placed on top of a rugged 4.8L engine block.

Not to give too much away, but I'm not running a TB48 in the rx7. I will however be running one when I move up to a pro rwd chassis in 18 months. I seriously believe this is the engine to propel a sports compact car into the 5's some day(not necessarily my own car lol), there is already one making 2600hp on nitro and 56psi and 106mm turbo. With Twin GT4788's, 70+psi and 9000+rpm capabilities with 4 litres and 30% more head flow than a 2J is probably the baddest combination for a sports compact engine I have ever come across, with 4WD block integrity meaning it should be as reliable as the 2J's are at 2000hp.
Sure it all sounds good on paper, but the intake manifold for mine is already under development, crank is 16 weeks away, and my cylinder head guy is already doing all teh heads for these dubia guys and has developed them as far as they will go, as I said they flow 30% more than a mega dollar 2J head. A friend who already does billet mains for the RB's will do the main caps and girdle for me, so I guess some day, hopefully we'll find out.

good to see someone put their balls on the line and try and reinvent the wheel.. i tried it with cv and copped an epic fail after 100+k
hope the thing ****ing hammars.. let me know if youre heading to jambo and we can mb set up a big tent this year.. i think theres around 6 cars in our crew this year.
yeah I guess Kyles biggest advantage is he can do pretty much everything, it'd be nice to be able to do it like that, least you get the job done right the first time.

yeah, i hear he does good at manifolds...
kyle out of curiousity, since you run such a successful business, will you be using this car as advertising for your skills with all things welded?
basicaly i mean as a tax thing? surely you get the best of both worlds then haha, successful business and a very fast car tied together but you get to write off some expenses?
best of luck mate, would love to see more pics of the cage when you get it delivered.
The car will be used as a rolling promotion for my business, as well as advertising, and I have found drag racing to be one of the best forms of advertising for my work, as well as giving invaluable feedback to give to other future customers. So yes, the car for all intents and purposes will be owned by my business, so obviously there are tax benifits that go with that.
In saying that, the advantages aren't as amazing as some might think, at best spening 100k might save you 10k on tax if that, so its not like just because you own a business and run a race car its paying for itself
Thanks for the support Jules, I'll try my best to be at Jambo, fingers crossed no major setbacks we should be on track, I have virtually every component needed to finish the car already, it'll just be some fab work and painting that will be the deciding factor
Some more pics for those who haven't seen any of car before:

none the less mate goodluck with the car i was just remembering you saying once you would use tb48 as ultimate engine combination.
jules building a tb48 is not really re inventing the wheel there are plenty of tried and tested combos already and even as linked above somewhere crower and other assorted companys already have full forged kits for these things.
imagine the tb48 in a vl with a clutchless manuel and gt55 on meth it would be a weapon.
why bother with rd28 diesel blocks and assorted stuffing around just go straight for the mother of all nissan inline sixes the 4.8 litre twin cam godzilla lololol.
remember these patrols linked above racing even lightened would still be heavier than the heaviest vl around if you have seen the chassis and diffs on the things you would agree.

The cars never turned a wheel since being built, but it was fitted with a 13B and liberty when it wad one. I was orignally told it was built by vanishing point, which when I found the build thread on the car on the GRS forums realised it wasn't. I spoke to the seller and he then said the guy who did it supposedly worked for VPRC's at some point.
While I was annoyed at first, ultimately the car is a bargain, and as long as the chassis is straight and square, it looks trick and is designed well, so I'll be happy as long as it is. The bigs things I'm unhappy with after seeing build photo's I'll just redo.
Make no mistake about it tho, a TB48 is a big engine, and heavy at that, our future race car with have as many lightweight components as possible to ffset the weight of the 48. It'd have to be a tight bloody fit in a VL bay thats for sure!!
