doesnt matter what kind of 8 is in it, it will be a pig cause of the supporting mods to make it a 9 sec motor
As an example my old mans old race car was making just under 550 rwkw yes rwkw and to drive it around the streets you would have to hold it in 2nd to keep revs up so it wouldnt stall and jump around, plus the ammount of fuel you consume with a 9sec v8 in comparison to an rb is a joke

You'll need a big cam and high comp to make that sort of power N/A, you'l also need a high stall and lock diff to do a 9sec pass. Those things makes it a bitch to live with on the street
LS1 would be heaps easier to make the power your after and would also be more streetable, however I don't think many 9sec cars are very streetable

oh ok. i thought maybe being a factory 5.7L it may be able to produce those figures easier and thus be abit more tolerant but i guess not. I would just like the V8 because everyone does the turbo 6 route.
I spose i could always twin turbo a 1UZFE and it would still be legal in QLD...
This is what ya need......
O, yeah Australia's quickest street car 2009. Proven, not talked about or just on paper.

If i ever went a turbo 6 it would be an RB of some kind. Never liked the JZ motors.

Having ridden in 10 sec, 130mph holden v8's, and seeing how you need to fill up every 5 minutes, Have to yell at each other to talk.... i hate to see how "streetable" a 9 sec 140mph one is..fun, but not streetable
Go turbo whatever..way less noise, way better economy, less revs to make power= less rebuilds....I'd be looking at a turbo 5 litre or ls1
To build a 9 sec anything will cost $30-60G
cheers
darren
Nothing like a N/A engine cruzin the streets and to run a 9 in a NA form id be looking at 400ci engine so it isent to much of a pig to drive on the street, and will also have so much more usuable torque and long power skids
So ur best beat will be to start with a LS engine and go from there or go turbo in either LS engine or the holden engine
If u really want N/A just start with the biggest LS engine u can engineer and get the car running right with standard engine and get the rest of the drivetrain sorted. Then id do some top end work to make some more hp which u will enjoy for a while as its not a daily driver then build ur stroker bottem end.

easiest way to go is ls1/2/3 twin turbo. in a ve they pull 11's out of the box. all for about 15k on a standard motor ( Bar exhaust and tune etc) In a much lighter VL the times would be substantially quicker. 2 speed powerglide or 3 speed is the way to go. 9 inch etc...
so 10-15 for a suitable written off car+extra parts needed
15k for the turbo kit+tune (450-500kw@fly)
9 inch (not cheap)
labour(unless your going to do it yourself
engineers (min 2k)
so at a minimum you should set your self aside $40k +
and all for what? for under 20 you can have your RB series well into the 10's
speed cost money - How fast do you want to go?
As i said before i cannot boost the V8 and still be legally registered. Also I think i might have given the wrong impression in regards to what i meant by 'streeter'. I dont mean a cruisy daily driver that can go to the shops for milk ect, but just something that can remain registered, and be driven to and from the track ect. Even if it was a bitch to drive, im sure the run to and from the strip ect would be bearable.
Also every man and his dog has a boosted 6 in a VL, hence the push towards a V8.
How about a Vortech V2 Centrifigul Supercharger on a LS2. mmmmm instant power and a whined you never forget.

Seems to me that the decision is made already for u as u dont want a pig 2 drive and LS with bigger cubes is ur way to go my friend.
LS3 engine as a base and u can stroke them out to a 427ci and make the power u want easily to make a 9
