there is no reason why the RB30 cant be as reliable as a V8.
you need to take some responsibility for it and ditch the bloody link ecu for a start, put it on trademe now.
what diff ratio do you have and who built the diff?
25DET box in good nick with good oil should be fine for years on the street.
you cant get a plenum made by anyone, most trades people are bordering on imcompetant, get good advice before getting stuff made.
I think you have used the wrong parts not the wrong engine.
LS3
In all seriousness the best modified cars are ones in which you set out with a plan and match all components to work together.
New ECU + some LS1 coils(built in igniters ) Hell even a microtech
R33 5 Spd and possibly look at a real diff.
Has the possibility entered your mind the work being completed is not up to scratch?

All in all Adam the car is good and has some good parts on and in her. like i said we need to strip that cluttered bay and simplify EVERYTHING, a rb30et is one of the many good ideas, but a v8 is not the way to go. think about certs and all that shyt again, i will be keen as mate to get into your car and fix all the little niggles. the main ones to fix is the the turbo, exhaust manifold and wiring looms, easy stuff dude, some engineering is needed but once again not hard. the diff will not be hard, if that guy who fixed it before wont repair it ill do it for you,
and the 6 sounds better haha, who agrees?

I have a 25det box with a 3:45 ratio the diff was made by master tune & I will be going back when they open & making then fix it, I had a hand in building the plenum & its flowing well, I argree the link is a p.o.s but Im NOT going through the bs of getting it wired in & tuned again, Basicly I built my first rb25det 8 years ago & have researched as much as I can & if I have anymore issues I am more than likely going to pull it out & put in a 8, For now I will get the diff fixed & weld up the manafold & go from there.

I have an R33 25DET box already & vs coils Ive been told by a few people the diff should be fine & yeah it seems no matter where I go people just dont seem to get it right... Basicly Brent is right the link is my downfall Im just sick of the issuses & cant be arsed buying a microtech due to how much everything has cost me lately

Btw this was just supposed to be a blog to do with the pros & cons about maybe doing a v8 conversion if you lot are going to go on about my car being s**t Im not going to bother replying I have been building this car for around 8 years & have built it how I wanted I have done 90% of the work by myself with a limited budget not everything is how I would want it but have been upgrading as I go as im sure alot of us on this site are doing. please just keep to the topic eh?

For the amount of money it would cost me to replace my computer & manifold I could buy a standard 304 & trans lol that is why I have been thinking about just selling the rb & starting again.

Im only telling you my opinion btw.
are you blowing up 25DET boxes? or were you blowing up smaller boxes before the DET went in?
what wall size is the pipe in the stainless manifold?
3.45 gears are one of the easiest to set up and any shop that fits them and they start getting noisey (assuming good oil went in) are a bunch of clowns.
you will always spend way more than you think at the outset of a project, the V8 wont cost a huge amount but I would be ****ted with the sad power output and want to mod it after a few days....

no the 25 box is going really well I went through a couple of 20det boxes while I was building it & yeah I would not be leaving the 8 standard for long knowing me lol I will have to get back to you on the piping for the manifold as I can t remember but its thicker then the cheap ones, Im thinking its maybe form being on the dyno soo much cos it glows when its getting tuned

man, a good manifold should never warp or crack. how many times have you had that one on and off and repairs done to it???????
throwing or selling that one is a pro, and i dont think anyone said your car is shyt. i love it, its cool, and you have done a wiked job on it man. it just has some small issues that need attention,
i know you have been burnt from the rb, BUT its the same things that are failing, not the motor or actual car dude, it pulls like a school boy bro. you will spend a lot more money getting a v8 in there and going slower for it. plus its just not you, if you know what in mean.
and for all the link haters, the setup adam has the link is fine and does the job just fine. a few small niggles fixed and it will be sweet as l&p
who does your tuning?
why are you pro link convert? everyone i have been involved in is a pos, losing maps, slow processing, major ignitor and injector driver issues, they are hopeless, the G4 appears to be a great ecu though...

adam has had many tuners on to it, i think names should not be revealed tho
im not pro link but its already fitted and 90% there, and i know of many cars with them in and working fine, and for some time too. of all the links ive seen only 2 have had some issues that required a lot of attention, this one has been the worst tho.
im quite confident all can be sorted with minimal expense.
the g4 on the other hand i havent had or heard of any issues whatsoever.
a very good unit they are.
