Yeah just something to keep me occupied for a while lol. I did see the shoot but I can't remember anything about it as I wasn't particularly interested until I started researching it. Yeah once it's going we should organise a cruise up the vineyards or somethn like old times haha. Nice, always loved the vt gts, how far off is the vl? Got any recent pics? yes your right mate but before boost its still a 5L so it will still be alright and if it means boost comes on at say 3500rpm instead of say 2500rpm than is it that bad, really would make it a nicer car to drive every day and still good top end, i'm putting mine in the bay and its tight and a pain in the butt but its not a car i will drive much. all i'm saying is lag is more of a pain to small motors than it is to bigger ones, you've only got to drive a rb20 and a rb30 to see that. brads will still be a good thing when waiting for the boost to hit, and bang for buck this is a great upgrade Quote: Originally Posted by 7FOUR7 Adam long time no speak mate how you been? Got any recent pics? still need to weld up manifolds, and need a trim as i sold off the group a trim. i'm really i no hurry to get it done, would rather do a good job then a quick one..will be worth the wait anyway and a 400hp daily helps

I read somewhere that mitsu magna injectors are good, can anyone shed some light on this?? Duke regarding the catchan pic, is that exactly how it should be made with the rocker cover lines at the bottom of the tank? Also the line to the T/B I'm presuming is a vac line? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

as long as there is ample room at the bottom for any oil to gather (which in thise case wouldn't be an issue with the oil drain to the sump), then yes. as the vapours go up through the catch can it will hit the baffles (metal with holes in it in this case) to catch/condense the oil.

Yeah I guess it is kind of like a vac line as it will only suck the blow by through when the manifold is in a vacuum state, like at cruise/off boost and when you get off the throttle at high revs kind of deal. If you wanted to be sneaky about the whole deal I would paint the catch can matte black and just use black fuel hose. If you wanna bling it, then stainless and braided hose.

you should use a pcv or 1way valve in the line to the throttle body, you dont want +ve pressure in there.

if u are going for a stock engine bay look, why not run the catch can under the car and just run breather line back to the intake of the turbo?

You don't want to be sucking in the oily air while your boosting. The oil lowers the octane rating and makes it ping thats why we only suck it in at cruise and when the throttle shuts no load situations. In saying that its more theory than application as you look inside an LS series manifold and they are covered in oil. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

collecting parts at the moment, picked up a brand new 600x300 cooler for 80 bux, got 50mm gate, injectors are coming thursday, got tranny cooler, shiftkit and corvette servo, get scavenger pump next week. Still to buy is a turbro, fuel cell and a fuel pump. Then, it begins!! More of a slow project with me and my bro inlaw, we have both thrown thousands and thousands at vls, now just keen to spend a bit here, bit there and do it ourselves for a budget setup.. Ps. my car is using water, thinking headgasket so might as well thrown on some cometics and head studs while we are at it.

No doubt I will spend more money than I want to on it but I'm not going to pull it off the road and throw 40k at it like my last vl lol. Question for duke or anyone else in the know. How do you think an xr6 gt35 would perform, externally gated of course. I'd be happy if I had full boost by 4000ish rpm. If I werent happy can I just buy another gt35 rear (like .82) and bolt it up to the xr6 turbs?? Reason I am thinkin of using it is because it's .5 front cover so it will fit in the rear muffler well and I won't have to use a fuel cell..

Just a thought Brad, I would add some sort of sheet metal shield over the exhaust side of the turbo for peace of mind. Im sure a bit of water spray hitting it wouldnt hurt, but chucking a bucket of water (eg puddle) on it while glowing could end badly!

Bradrey, have a rook at eBay for those cheap and nasty T04Z knock offs. I reckon they'd be the go. Decent sized and bush bearing but that's the name of the game in rear mount turbos from what I can understand. The velocity and which the gas will be travelling should help eat up a lot of the lagginess. Just a thought?
